Cirelli for Eleventh Overall and San Jose Trade

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: May 29, 2020
Published: May 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's painful to have to give Cirelli up, but Tampa keeps Sergachev (signed to a bridge deal) and Cernak and gains the 11th overall pick in a very good draft.

Tyler Johnson waives his NTC to get closer to home and increased playing time.

Of course, this scheme doesn't work without the ability to use a "compliance buy-out" on Yanni Gourde (shown in the LTIR because I'm an Anaheim guy).

Lol no thanks. If Johnson does waive I’ll pay maybe a late second max to get him. He’s overpaid and not even a 50 point player anymore

Why would Johnson waive when him not waiving would mean they couldn't afford to take on Donato and he could just slide into that spot in the top 6?

And you've used a compliance buyout here, which I don't see the union agreeing to.

$3.75 caphit for a third pairing Left D isn't a luxury they can afford.

I don't know which of your three statements is the silliest . . . I'll go with Mikhael Sergechev isn't worth $3.75 million.

Papi: would you rather give up the Colorado second? I did it this way because I thought you'd prefer to have a pick in between your second and your fifth.

He had 29 goals last season while I think kellman or gambrel and Roy would be a better package I could see Johnson filling out our top 6 At a reasonable price.

11oa for Cirelli is interesting to me (as I mentioned in our previous convo). Still not sure if it's enough for Cirelli and Killorn though. Maybe for Johnson instead if he'd waive since he isn't as good.

Not saying I don't like Johnson, i think Sasha and Dahlen are not the assets that we are getting rid of here. Certainly not Dahlen that is for sure

Thanks for helping out. I don't know the Sharks' prospect pool that well and was just trying to get something reasonable to Tampa Bay. (I chose two highly-rated youngsters from Dobber Prospects.) The idea was for the Lightning to cut their losses, not make a profit. This post is preparatory to a Sharks rebuild post, so I'll do better from that side.

Dahlen isn’t leaving Europe and not advancing to the better league in Europe I see him as a dead end

The Jets fan above sneers at the thought.

I think a two-year bridge deal at that price is reasonable, because then he gets a bigger hit and a longer contract with his next deal.

I’m low on Dahlen but high on Sasha I doubt he goes
Gambrel is very affordable bottom 6 with middle 6 potential
Roy is a 4/5 Defensive DMan prospect that gives you two decent prospects and tons of cap space.

Fine. As I said above, I don't know the Sharks' farm system that well and I was essentially throwing darts at a board. Gambrell and Roy are fine for my purposes.

And Roy is a RD, where the Lightning need depth.

Plus, Gambrell is signed to the League minimum.

I like the trade. I wouldn't settle for Johnson though. I think Guerin can play some hard ball here since the bolts are in such a tough cap situation. Also the bolts may want to keep Johnson since he is 1 of 2 right hand shot forwards they have.

Both Johnson and Gourde being over paid is going to make it very difficult for the team to move either one of them. Even if they did manage to waive, not that I think they will.
I don't see any teaming wanting those salaries. If they were 3 million guys maybe. So if they waive them, they are going to have serious problems.
You'll officially have a PO player you can't trade for 4 or 5 more years.
I just don't see anyone running to take either one of those contracts.

I think Cirelli and Killorn for the 11th and Donato is fair because Donato is worth more than Killorn, in that he's younger and cheaper.

I need Johnson elsewhere anyway, because he's the temporary replacement for Tomas Hertl, who's going to Buffalo for the 7th overall pick.

So Buffalo ends up with Hertl, Minnesota ends up with Cirelli, San Jose ends up with Marco Rossi, and Tampa ends up with Anton Lundell or Dawson Mercer. And Tampa gets to keep Sergachev and Cernak.

Yeah probably. This draft is deep with forwards and next year is deep with defenseman. We need forwards

They have three in the top 6: Stamkos, Point, Johnson. I don't think they'll be hurting if they move Johnson

Stepehens is also a right shot if the re-sign him for their bottom 6

I'd rather go the OS route too, but I don't see an OS happening. Too many moving parts: MN doesn't offer one, another team offers a better one, TB matches, or Cirelli doesn't sign it.

@OldNYIfan I think Donato with half retained makes the deal look a little better for TB. A $950k difference isn't a lot, but it might be enough to push it over the top.
