"2nd upgrades to a 1st if they make the playoffs" that itself is top 10 protection lol
but in all seriousness I dont think we should trade Saad unless the offer blows our socks off. I think in an ideal world we re-sign him to a little bit cheaper of a contract and he's a great middle 6 winger for the next few years

I would always like to get more for Murray but I like this deal from a Pens perspective. Saad’ underlying numbers are pretty good & hes a fast power forward who’d make an excellent fit alongside Sid & Zucker.

Leafs should do this. Im not even sure they'd have to buyout Maata (which would be a cheap $680,400 anyway) rather than flip him for a low return.

How is it that Maatta provides the Leafs with cap space?

His buyout is very cheap.

It’s about even caps Murphy for Kap,

Maatta buyout (no CBO) is about 700k vs Johnsson current contract.

Cag’s won’t be expensive.

Ok, I was confused by your phrasing. It sounded like the inclusion of Maatta in the deal provided them with cap space.

Well I mean if we're speaking TECHNICALLY the 5-12 seeds aren't officially "playoffs" but yeah next year might be a wild ride from the start due to it starting in december or january potentially

Also I think I would keep Caggs over Johnsson at this point

How? If he, and he alone, were omitted from the deal, the Leafs would save more cap space than they would with him included.

I’m a big Saad fan and I would like to see him stick around long term. But I think he’s gone before the start of next season. If the Hawks need to clear cap space he’s an easy target. Saad’s cap hit isn’t too bad and it’s only for one year. But I see the Hawks trading for picks and/or a player on their ELC.

I personally don't think there is consensus between CHI fans and TOR fans over Murphy/KK. Chicago fans continuously put KK on the 3rd line. TOR fans continuously put Murphy on the top Dpair. I like KK and CHI 100% needs to get a speedy guy, but TOR needs to be sending something else too. Murphy's contract is better, he's a RHD.

I also really don't think we need Johnsson. I'd prefer like to target another Euro transfer. Pius Suter. Go after him hard. These guys don't cost us any assets and CHI keeps having success with these transfers.

The Matt Murray trade value is there. and yes, I do think if anyone gets moved...unfortunately it'll be Saad. Saad was far better than his point total last year. The only caveat to this trade is that I'd prefer to have Crow than Matt Murray. He had a horrendous year last year and is really turning out to be a streaky netminder. That's a problem to me. I'm not convinced he's worth the contract he's about to get.
