BUF DET SJS CBJ TOR VGK fans any interest in Domi

Created by: gm_jeanguy
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2020
Published: May 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He's a great fit in MTL in terms of personality, but the top 6 is stacked and playing him on a 3rd line is suboptimal. He could be moved to the wing but he'd be better served if he'd play center.

About the return: with Romanov coming over, the LD doesn't looks as shaky as it did not that long ago, so the preferred return would be a top 6 right shot scoring winger in his early 20s (we have Caufield in the pipe but he's 2-3 years away); that could be one of Reinhart, Meier, Labanc, Kapanen, Anderson, Tuch, Mantha or the like.

To ease the deal, prospects/picks could be involved on either side.

What do you say? Do you have a specific proposal to make?

Columbus- Yes, but not at the price MTL fans would trade him for.

Maybe a Labanc+deal could make sense. Only if Domi signs to a resonable contract though, if hes making 8 mil we are out.

Reinhart for Domi makes a lot of Sense, but I don’t think it would happen. Sabres have a lot of RD Montour, Miller and Ristolainen. Could Montreal use another one just in case Petry is traded or doesn’t re-sign?

Sabres can't afford to be giving up Reinhart. We have 5 players for a top 6 (Skinner Eichel Cozens Olofsson and Reinhart) we need a legit 2C as Cozens is looking more like a winger. In my opinion at least. I still think Montour and Domi makes an interesting base as they are both RFAs... but I feel like the Dylan Strome rumours might be really strong...

Not a fit for Buffalo as they lack right wing depth also. If the Sabres were to move Reinhart in a deal would likely want a 2C center and top 6 right winger in the return. Sabres most likely looking to move depth on right D and draft picks to address their needs. Also difficult to make a trade with high profile players like that within the division

Perhaps you should look to Winnipeg for Roslovic + in return or Ehlers

Unlike other sabs fans here. I’ll absolutely trade Domi for Reinhart. Domi plays a better game. Sam is okay but does nothing to wow you and probably benefits an extra 10 points a year because he hardly ever plays with anyone other than eichel.

If Detroit gets 1st oa. and laf then I'd be more than interested in domi. The problem being of course we don't have the pieces to move for him. It would have to be something like our 2nd rounder this year and 2nd rounder next year and a prospect maybe rass. No mantha!!!!

Why not bring in Kovalchuk as a stop-gap to hold the second RW roster spot for a season till Caufield is ready. Rumor is that this is already a done deal.
I think Danault is very good defensively but his offensive numbers are inflated from playing with Gallagher and Tatar.
Let an offensive minded guy run with Tatar and Gally.
Montreal should try:
Tatar-Domi-Gallagher
Drouin-Suzuki-Kovalchuk
Lehkonen-Danault-Armia
Byron-Evans-Weal
That third line would be one of the premier shut down lines in the league since Lehkonen and Armia are so good defensively too, and maybe Danault could finally win his Selke Trophy. You know that CJ would throw that line out every time the other teams top line comes out, to shut them down, so that third line would actually be the Habs first line in terms of minutes played.
Give Kotkaniemi some time in Laval, hopefully he dominates down there and call him up when one of Domi. Suzuki or Danault get injured. The Habs can figure out what to do in the 2021-22 with regards to having too many center men.
Domi played great with Byron and Shaw as his wingers 2 years ago, give him some better skilled wingers and see what he can do. If it doesn't work out then look to move him.

his number should begin with a 5 MAYBE a 6, he's gotta be a bit more consistent if he wants in the 7-8M range

No interest from Vegas. I don't know what it is, but I just don't like his personality. There's a cockiness and arrogance that just wouldn't fit here. Is he a good player? Sure. But somehow I just see him as a dressing room killer. I think he thinks his 'ship doesn't sink' if you know what I mean. Not a fan.

Kelly and Co. are all about character and dressing room guys. It's not a coincidence that we have more players born in the Canadian prairies than any other team (I can't back this up nor do I have time to go through each roster to prove it so take it easy on me). Hard working, help the neighbor, please-marry-my-daughter type of guys.

But the bigger story here is not where Domi could be traded. It's that you consider your top 6 to be stacked. I'm seriously not trying to rock the boat or be funny...do you really feel that way? If you have the best goalie in the world (not my words) and a back end that boasts Weber and Petry, AND a top 6 that are stacked, how are you consistently mediocre at best? Please, I'm not picking a fight here, I'm simply curious of your assessment on what the underlying problem might be in Montreal currently.

Like I said, I don't think MTL needs to add a top 4 LD. I feel comfortable with Chiarot, Mete and Romanov/Kulak.

I don't see RD as an area of need. I don't see why Petry would be moved, plus there's Juulsen, Fleury ans Brook coming.

I’m not. Use the Ekholm ex. Two more years while Romanov develops. You hugely improve now and help your future team by having kids develop properly

MTL is not a mediocre team, it is on the bubble. Last year, it missed the playoffs by 2 pts, and would have been a playoff team if it was playing in the West. This year counterperformance was due on part to a combination of bad puck luck (7th worst PDO) and injuries.
