Unless you're threatening to release a video of the entire Avalanche Front Office in a human centipede there is NO WAY they accept that offer.

bit of an overreaction to a trade where you're only giving up a 2nd and a 3rd, wouldn't you say?

I'd want Sandin (or at the very least Dermott) back if I'm trading Severson. Young, controlled two-way right handed defensemen don't come cheap

Pleb? Ha. Try asking for two 3rd round picks. Then you might actually start getting AV fans on both sides of the discussion. That's when you know a trade is fair - when fans of the team you're trading with are divided on whether or not to do it. Right now you're only exciting the Leaf fans... which means the trade is one-sided.

0.55 PPG over the last 116 games, translating to 45 points/season

Avs have plenty of cap space to squeeze Johnsson in. And he can still chip in 40-45 points/season which is good production for 3.4M

Given Colorado's talent, that 2nd will be in the latter half of that round in a weaker draft (so I here). The Toronto 3rd could either be really early or mid round depending on if the Leafs lose to the Jackets (they could easily lose).
Colorado also has a deep prospect pool, so you're not losing much by sending a couple mid round picks for Johnsson

Just because they have the cap space to fit him doesnt mean they are going to give up a 2nd+3rd for him. Honestly I dont even want him at that cap hit, hes not a bad player but with a flat cap he isnt really worth anything to COL since they have no need for middle 6 wingers.

Also his production would likely drop on COL too since he wouldnt be playing with other elite forwards. His most common linemates at even strength were Matthews-Nylander, followed by Matthews-Marner. Those 2 combinations accounted for over 70% of his ice time at even strength. over 81% of his ice time at even strength involves him playing with at least one elite forward: Matthews, Tavares, Marner. Who would he play with in COL? probably two of Kadri, Burakovsky, Donskoi, Compher, Nichushkin, Jost. Maybe he would get a shot on the top line if there are injuries, but the majority of the time would be in the middle 6. Thats a huge difference in quality of linemates and I doubt he would have the same production.

Maybe a team like EDM who needs forward depth would be interested but COL has no interest in him at that price

Would you rather someone like Toffoli at 5.5-6M to fill a role on the 2nd line with Kadri? Or do you figure Colorado will promote Newhook and Kaut to fill roles?

Also I thought this past season Johnsson played with Kerfoot and Kappy before Mikheyev got hurt. He still produced 21 points in 34 games which is still above 0.5 PPG with those linemates (granted I could be wrong, as I don't know the exact time shares this season)

Yeah Toffoli would be a better fit imo. Or even just leave their forward core as is for 1 season (which I think is more likely), then bring in Newhook for 2021-22. Kaut will probably be a regular NHLer next season.

He only played with Kerfoot-Kapanen 3.71% of the time at even strength. You can look at linemates here: https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_linecombo.php?select=F&forward=TOR%3A4605%3AANDREAS%3AJOHNSSON&games=2019-2020%3AR%3A99&period=ALL&situation=EV

Thank you for pointing out another reason the trade makes no sense: The Avs are the highest scoring team in the West, and AS YOU SAID they have a very decent prospect pool... so they don't NEED to to give up a 2nd round pick (which is NOT a mid round pick) for a $3.4M bottom six guy playing 14 minutes a night. They can develop some of the talent they have in the system. Well said.

Toffoli is 28, and a 45 point player. He may not have played with a Matthews/Marner, but I believe he spent time with Carter/Kopitar, and Horvat/Pettersson (who aren't slouches either)
Not sure who you would prefer between 3M Johnsson or 6M Toffoli.

I mean. Colorado is a good team. Their second will be closer to 62 than to 32. And the 3rd is Toronto's, so that's up in the air. So the price could be two early 3rds. (And the 2021 draft is not going to be as good as this draft)

I would take Toffoli. More experience, great possession numbers even when on a bad team, can kill penalties if needed, generates more offense, drives play better

Toffoli has played with elite linemates (Kopitar, Petterson) less than 43% of the time at even strength this season and produced 44P in 68GP (0.647P/GP = 53 point pace). Johnsson has played with elite linemates (Matthews, Tavares, Marner) over 81% of the time at even strength and produced 21P in 43GP (0.488P/GP = 40 point pace).

I dont see any upside to Johnsson over Toffoli besides the cap hit difference.

These are valid points but even at 62 it is still a 2nd round pick. I'm sorry, I just don't think the Avs need him and strongly feel having that contract on your roster sets a bad example that future bottom 6 players can point to when asking for annual bonuses and a MNTC after putting up ONE good season. They are far better off keeping their picks and re-signing Namestnikov who has proven he fits with the team and had 12 even strength goals in 54 games last season (compared to Johnsson's 4 in 43). Namestnikov is also a very good penalty killer.
