I really don’t know why we should trade for Eichel frankly

We should just keep developing your young core IMO

No need to go all in in 20-21

That’s a fat no from Columbus. Strome isn’t any better then a middle 6 center and Columbus has that with Wennberg. Strome is so overrated due to 1 year with Panarin and 1 year of a 15% shooting%. Columbus isn’t giving up Anderson and Gavrikov for Strome and some low end prospect. The best place for Strome is to take a pay cut to stay in NYR with Panarin.

To be fair Jones is a very good prospect but yeah agreed. They’d move Savard and Murray before Gavrikov IMO

Harrington, Murray, Savard, Kukan, Nuttivaara, Gavrikov would be the order the d should be traded in before Gavrikov, only players after are Werenski, Jones and Peeke.

...Eichel is 23 and signed for 6 years. I'm not sure how much more future looking you can get than that... You get him so that you're not forced to resign Zibanejad deep into his 30's in 2 years.

Just to be clear.... Jones is a top 60 prospect in the league. He led all u20 NCAA dmen in point rate and was the QB of the USA PP at World Juniors. Among the 4 assets dealt in the trade, he's the most valuable....

It is curious about Strome though.... is he overrated because he made Panarin significantly more productive than he ever was in Columbus or even Chicago alongside Kane? Or is he underrated because his linemates in Edmonton were Jujhar Khaira and AHL level Jesse Puljujarvi and yet he still managed to outproduce Wennberg's production over the last 2 years....I mean really who's to say?

You can view the trade as Strome for Anderson and Gavrikov for Jones if you like. Either way Jarmo's smart enough to pull the trigger.

Lmao no he’s not... you’re biased if you truly think Strome is a 2nd line center. He’d be an average 3rd line center on any contender or without Panarin.

Panarin was better because he was in a better system for him. Columbus plays a defensive system that holds offensive player back and Panarin still was point peg game in Columbus, he also wasn’t 100% happy in Columbus like he is with the Rangers because he got to pick where he wanted to play.

Columbus has 0 interest in trading Gavrikov and less interest in adding a defensive prospect. Also Wennberg is pretty close to Strome career wise and their best seasons are crazy similar. Wennberg also hasn’t ever played with a star like Tavares or Panarin.

This trade really only helps NY Rangers, not much incentive for Columbus.

I didn't say he was a 2nd line Center.... he's a 3rd line Center. And Josh Anderson is a 3rd line Winger, one with questionable health. So yeah a 3rd line Center is going to have more value than a 3rd line injury prone winger...

Anderson has played 60+ games every year besides this year. Not sure he’s injury prone unless you say that a guy who’s played 78, 63 and 82 games a season until this year injury prone.

I’d also say both are middle 6 players. Columbus really doesn’t need another 3rd line center, Jenner and Wennberg are both 3rd line centers. We really just need a stop gap 2nd line center for a year or two. Maybe Eric Staal if the price is right.

...So I'm wondering, is Columbus in a win-now mode? Seems like they don't really have the Forward pieces to go too far in the post-season. Right now they're in that unfortunate kinda low seed bubble no-man's land. I figured you probably try and do a Rangers-esque hyper rebuild and construct a core around Jones/Werenski/Peake and Bjork/Bemstrom/PLD/Texier/Foudy. But you'd need to deal Savard/Atkinson/ Nyqvist/Foligno/Wennberg and net yourself at least a couple 1sts along with top prospects.

But the way you're talking about it is like all the Blue Jackets need is a few complimentary pieces (like Eric Staal) and you should be good for a cup run. Blue Jackets finished this season with the 5th worst Offense in the league both at Evens and PP. Now of course Injuries play a big part in that, but that's a long way to go. Maybe I just don't see it. But I love Torts as a coach and if he had more play drivers to work with you guys would be dangerous.
