I agree, but it depends on who's making the trades. Danault and Tatar certainly aren't worth a lottery pick. Gallagher is one of the best value players in the league.

How about we trade Petry for another first and send that to Detroit as well?

Am I correct to assume that the MTL/DET trade only applies if it's done before the Draft. Otherwise, if DET gets the top pick they'd decline. But, I understand it'd be a fun gamble before the Draft, especially considering that DET only has about an 18.5% chance of winning the top pick. I would make the trade for all of those picks if I'm selecting 2nd or lower. But, I would never in a million years give away Lafrenierre. The fan base would eat him alive. You're correct to assert that MTL would basically mortgage the entire roster and all of their assets for the home-province kid.

The trade would probably happen after the lottery, but who can deny 4-5 firsts? Think - Lafreniere vs lets say idk Perfetti, Holtz, Bourque, Amirov

What is that too unrealistic for you? I get it the French Canadian Kid gets all the Montreal fans all hot and bothered but there isn't a REAL GM alive that would make that trade in the first place. So being unrealistic is ok for you but no one else?

I would probably decline that Kings trade, but make the second the Chicago 2020 pick . . .

And make it the Montreal 2020 first, the Chicago 2020 second and the Montreal 2021 first and I would definitely say yes.

I guess it depends on how good Lafreniere projects to be? Would anyone have made this trade for Hughes last summer? Would ARI have done it for Matthews if TOR had agreed? Obviously McDavid was untouchable.

Let me say this: No other franchise would make this trade after the Draft if DET gets the 1st pick. How much added value does hometown hero really hold? I know it's not insignificant b/c Bergevin paid big to bring Drouin home to Quebec. I sincerely doubt any other GM would've made that trade.

First, you're overvaluing the players you're sending to Ottawa. Second, the only guy they'd probably want is Gallagher since the Sens suck and the other two are UFAs. Gallagher still doesn't get you OTT or SJs 1st round pick.
The LA trade is alright, maybe they'd do it but they can just draft their own future star at 2 overall and not mess up his development.
Finally, even if all these trades go through, you are suggesting the Habs trade Danault, Gallagher, Tatar, Kotka, 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick for 1 player that has never played in the NHL. Lafreniere is obviously going to be good but with all that, may as well trade for Eichel.

I didn't mean that Gallagher/Tatar/Danault can get you pick 2/3/20, I just did that because Sens had 3 1st RPs, and it could be three different trades but I made it only one trade cuz I didn't want to do three different trades

But the only way Detroit is moving 1st overall is if they get two top 5s among other things
