If PIT Loses Play in Round and Makes It Into the Top 5 But Not First Overall

Created by: Arom5477
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2020
Published: Jun. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jamie Drysdale is the best D in the 2020 Draft. If we lucked out and got a top 5 pick, I'd go after him. Plus, he's a RHD, which we could use. But tbh, I don't know if he's ready for the NHL. If not, sign Trevor va Reimsdyk to a 1-year contract.

Thoughts on Hutton signing: He was better on a high possession team like LAK. I say we give him a 1-year contract to help him boost his value until the trade deadline or next UFA to give POJ some breathing room to continue to develop.

Sorry to Montreal fans, but there is no way Pittsburgh loses to the Habs.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible for the Penguins to get a top 10 pick that isn't #1-3 (barring any trades, of course).

I'd be surprised if Drysdale made it to 5, Detroit probably picks 4th and takes Drysdale. But with Yzerman you never know.

Detroit passes on Matt murray trade, not giving up those picks for Matt murray's warehouse of rebounds.

You do understand that Pittsburgh has already qualified for the playoffs? I'm pretty sure if they lose the lose in round the best they can hope for is #20 Pittsburgh can't get a top 5 spot that's only for the 15 non-qualifying teams Pittsburgh was a lock to make the playoffs so they don't qualify.

If the Pens win the lottery and get into the top 3 and take Drysdale, GMJR should be fired. At the very least they should trade down a few spots and get another asset from a team that would overpay for a chance to draft Byfield or Stutzle.

Correct so how do you suppose then that you get a top 5 pick if you lose to Montreal then? Pittsburgh under the current designation has already qualified for the playoffs, Therefore doesn't qualify for the draft lottery.

Serious question, if the Pens don't make the playoffs, do they have to declare to Minnesota that they're keeping the pick before or after the lottery?

Logically You’d keep your top 11 pick

Dude Yes i can read, Pittsburgh was already assured a playoff spot. So what part of that don't you understand? The play-in rounds are for the other teams that were outside the top 16 qualifiers to get in. So basically the #8 to #15 teams that were just outside of the playoffs get a shot at the playoffs that's what the play-in rounds are about.

I just didn't know if there was a set time that they had to declare it. Never thought about that until now

Play in is mtl vs Pittsburgh. The loser is in the lottery

Why on earth would the Penguins pick Drysdale over Byfield and/or Stützle?

I think he means if they pick 4 or 5 via trade

Ok. Trading down/up isn’t mentioned anywhere, so I’d assume they meant through the lottery.

Which makes sense. After I thought about it I realized it wouldn't matter. Nobody expects the Penguins to miss the playoffs in 2020-2021 so they would be better taking this year. Even if that pick is #15 OA.
