Description
Asking for Eichel, but giving two very good defense in Mete and Kulak, plus a solid 2nd liner in Byron and a good Cman in Danalt. Plus giving up 2 first picks, and 2nd plus 4th rounders. This removes Eichel from Buffalo and gives them some very good talent for the 10M$ price tag he has. Sign Dome to a 3yr/5.5M$ cap hit. Trade Armia and Lek for cap space, do some fillers with the RFA's in Domi and other Reserve list to fill up the farm team and that's it.

This is still just a sense of IF Buffalo decides to trade Eichel, and if he asks for a trade to get out of town.. If they want him gone, this fills in the hole he leaves by filling in for a few NHL'ers until Buffalo can develop new players to take his place. SO chill if you think this is a bad trade.. It's speculation on what Habs CAN give with a potential return to Buffalo.

Now I know this is going to be difficult for you,... but if you were Buffalo's GM,... and your goal was to get the team into the playoffs to win the Stanley Cup which is the goal of every team,... would you trade your franchise centerman and probably the best forward to ever play for your organization to a division rival and have to face him 4 times a year for the next decade for that return?

HEAVY overpay for Shatty

Yup and he had already made it abundantly clear that he has no desire to play in Canada.

Yeah not enough quality heading to Buffalo for Eichel, quantity doesn't equal quality.

Agreed. Kotkaniemi, Caufield, Brooks and two 1sts one might argue is light.

Eichel is simply one of those players that will never get a true market return in a deal.

But the offer presented does absolutely nothing to fill Buffalo's organizational needs.

Yup there was talk of a Hall for Shattenkirk deal, But Shattenkirk wouldn't commit long term with Edmonton. Because supposedly he had no desire to play in Canada. So they did the Hall for Larsson deal instead.

Oh... imagine how badly that would've ended for EDM...

Like I say in the description, this is IF Buffalo go for a trade because of the statements he made. Maybe he demands to be traded out. Giving Buffalo some good players like Danault and Mete, but 2 1st picks is a good trade to rebuild. I understand that he's the best they had in a while, but if he says he wants out.. you need to get some fast return that can play, and some good return for the future. As for the size of the trade, well, that's the answer for the division rivals. Need to compensate that with more.. Hence the 2nd and 4th rounders and some farm team players that could fill in when players get hurt.

Depends on where you play in Canada. With the pay day I give, he's going to listen, with a city like Montreal vs Edmonton, pretty sure he'll listen more than EDM.. Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver are the biggest cites that offer lots to player's stature vs Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary. Nothing against those cities, just that the night life and scene aren't has big as the three major cities.

Well.. 2 first round picks, 2nd anf 4th, plus a very good Dman and potential 2nd line center, then throw in a wingman capable of helping in every situation and Kulak who's played very well on the dline. You're not replacing Eichel, you can't since no team would trade their big guy for the other team's big guy just for the hell of it. When a big player goes out to criticize to organization, and IF he demands to be traded out, then you need to have "filler" players and some picks for the future. Buffalo is a long way from a good playoff team. With 2 first picks in the next 2 years, you greatly expands the possibility of getting some quality players in the club in the next 2-4 years. Mete will be at his best, Danault will be another good player, Byron will have left and Kulak will have served his purpose until the team build up. You can't expect 4 1st round pick.. No GM will do that.

This isnt a serious post is it?

Eichle trade is just well, dumb

Armia and Lehkonen are both worth more then what you're getting back

Only UFAs that are actually of use are Kovy and Soucy and Soucy is likely resigning in Minny.

To top it off you have a 3rd line of all centers and although I think they would actually be good together I would like to see them take more strides at center. Plus you have Shatty with Weber? What even is that

Just bad, all around.

I've read you say that if he demands out, then they have to move fast. My question is why? He's got 6 years left on his contract. Moves made quick end up like what you've proposed here, terrible for the team trading the star. Even MTL fans here know it's a joke return. The only valuable pieces are the 2 firsts, the other pieces are just ok. And you know they are, that's why you add 6 of them. But rationale thinking here: if he does demand a trade 1) he's going out west for a similar package IF this is the only return and Buf moves him even with 6 years remaining 2) won't be for 6 contracts (teams can only carry 50, and your suggesting adding 5 to that Sabres with the subtraction of Eichel 3) again, 6 years left. Tell him you're not trading him unless the right trade comes, and to play until then.
