I don’t think the Hawks are in the business to trade lottery picks. Lindholm is decent but will require a raise and will slowly decline. Hawks don’t need to make this move.

We have eight, count 'em 8, LDs other than Hampus Lindholm, so we don't need 2 more in general and Olli Maata in particular; we have our own Dylan Strome in the form of Sam Steel if not Trevor Zegras, so there's not much of that package that provides immediate help to us. If you're not offering us Adam Boqvist plus the 2021 first or the ninth overall pick this year, we're not really interested.

I would call that overpayment, by a fair margin.

Agreed. The key to the Hawks’ success in ‘10, ‘13, and ‘15 was depth. Trades like this deplete the meager depth Chicago has been able to accumulate. The Hawks need to keep the players they have and continue their development.

Well, you almost got the point. I guess that's the best we can hope for.

Honestly, I think the Hawks are doing right by their fans on this re-tool. What I would suggest the Hawks might consider is trying to acquire a player like Ryan Graves. He would look awfully good on the left side of Adam Boqvist, similarly to how he played much of the year with Cale Makar. Graves won't come cheap, but I think the Hawks have the pieces to get it done, where it won't hurt them too much. I am also quite intrigued with Alec Regula, though I think he needs some more development, and specifically work on his skating.

There’s nothing wrong with Graves, but I’d go with developing the young d-men they have in the pipeline. More playing time for Boqvist, Carlsson, Mitchell and Beaudin.
