Unlikely. I suspect he will get his 9 games, then be returned to juniors with an assignment to work on his defensive game.
Could be true too, he will definitely get an extended look. I feel like he doesn't have much left to prove in junior although if his defensive game isn't up to par that would be a good reason.

His defensive game needs a lot of work. McLellan doesn’t enjoy one dimensional players at all, just ask Nikolay Goldobin.

Thing is though, LAK needs offensive help. Even though they generated the 4th most shots per game, they were 30th in GF/GP. On the flip side, they allowed the 5th fewest shots and were 14th in GA/GP. They need finishers and guys that can put pucks in the net. That's exactly what Kaliyev has done since his first year in the OHL. Put the kid with some more well rounded players that he can learn the defensive game from. There is nothing left for him to do in the OHL.

The Kings aren't looking to compete next season. Players like Turcotte, Madden, Kupari, Thomas, Dudas, Bjornfot, and Durzi will all be playing together in the AHL getting experience together, so it's not like there's going to be a huge influx of youth onto the NHL roster. You have players like Luff and Grundstrom that have had more time to acclimate to professional hockey and already have a season or two in the system that won't be waiver exempt that can fill spots in the lineup. The team isn't ready for Kaliyev yet, and there's no reason to rush him into the lineup.
I disagree that there's nothing left for him to do in junior. He's already proven that he can score at will, but can he continue to put up huge goal and point totals while playing defensively sound hockey? I wouldn't be surprised if Blake called up Steve Staios and asked him to give Arty some PK time.

Valid points. I guess it'll come down to how he looks if they give him an early look and if they feel like his development would progress better in the OHL or NHL.
I think he should go play in the NCAA next season.
He needs better competition than the CHL really offers.
Older more developed players will really show where this guy is at and help him work on his game away from the puck.

Now that he has signed an ELC, the NCAA is no longer an option.
Don't think you can play in the CHL and go to collage. Even playing in one game removes eligibility, it's why the ajhl exists.
Even if he hadn't signed an ELC he couldn't play in collage
I think you can, As you can join the CHL at a very young age,
I think we had someone on our team at bowling green back in the day who had come from the CHL. He wanted to go to college, he didn't think he'd be an NHLer, so he wanted to get an education out of his playing. The rule on the NCAA is amateur, and I believe the CHL qualifies as amateur.

You can google it. I guarantee you that you cannot.
Here I did it for you
Because the CHL includes players who have signed professional contracts, the NCAA considers it a professional league. Therefore, players who have played a game - even an exhibition game - in the CHL are deemed ineligible for NCAA competition.

wow that's really F'd up because you can play in the CHL at 15.

Wasn't my favorite undersung defenseman of all time, Ken Morrow, from Bowling Green?

You can't actually play in the CHL as a 15 year old. You have to be 16-19 years old with each team allowed up to 3 20 year olds. The only way you can as a 15 year old is if the CHL/HockeyCanada grants exceptional status which has only happened a handful of times.

Players aged 15–20 are eligible to play in the WHL, though 15-year-olds are permitted to play only five games unless their midget team's season has ended.
This is true for every single CHL league.
So any 15 year old can play.
And according to the google info he posted 1 game.... 1 game. disqualifies you.
I think that's really harsh. 15 year old kids could end up playing in the CHL 1 game and then not be able to go to college and play at 18 is absurd.
They need a rules change.
He is a very good player but I think he still needs time to mature and develop in certain areas BUT what a great future addition from outside the first round.

For the first time ever starting next season a 15 year old will be playing full time in the WHL. Never has it happened before, Connor Bedard will be the very first 15 year old granted exceptional status in the WHL.
15 year olds can only play a few games and are not on the rosters. The league teams are comprises of 16-19 year olds. With the allowance of 3 20 year olds. If you use both import slots as teams are only allowed two. Great! but like my Wheaties Patera took an import spot and a 20 year old spot this season. 15 year olds are not allowed and if a player gets a small trial for the following season it's normally at the end of there junior A/AAA Bantam season so they can get accustomed to the CHL pace and level of play for the following season. As I said, Bedard playing next season will be the very first WHL 15 year playing full time and will be required to wear a cage like any other 15 year playing there 2/3 games they get any other time.

The NCAA needs to change it's rules period. The CHL isn't a professional league and has been ruled in various provinces and the state of Washington that it is an amateur league and it is. The CHL provides scholarships to the Canadian University programs across the country to it's players when there playing career is complete. If you can compete in the USHL and be eligible to play in the NCAA then playing in any of the three CHL leagues isn't any different. The way it's set up is a win for the CHL so I'm not complaining really.
