He won't waive to anywhere but yeah that seems accurate for a top 6 center rental

If you would have said a 2nd I would have been like ok.
But this is a massive over payment for a 35 year old guy who has been a 40 pt guy the past 2 years. At 8+ million a year, 40 point production sucks ass.
He is no longer a top 6 center. On top of it it's a rental 1 year and at 35, the odds of extension really are more dangerous than it's worth, especially if he expects to make anything like his current deal that he's not worth.

He is in all honesty, a bad contract to hold. For 8+ million in FA this year, you can find better production.

The ducks certainly have the cap space to retain 50% of his contract. I can't think of on steam who doesnt need what Getzlaf brings for 4.125 million. They could get a huge return for him

I agree this would be a good trade as long as the Ducks retained heavily on Getzlaf's contract.

He plays for the Ducks who barely score 2 goals a game when they win. He isn't going to produce 65 points plus per season when the rest of his team isn't playing offense.
Put him with Gaudreau, he clips 70 plus points with ease. When the ducks made the WCF in 17, he had 73 points.

Is he a rental? Absolutely but if he gets to be the 2C, he can do a lot of damage by not having as tough matchups and CGY would have 2 strong lines.

no just no.
There are a lot of guys who are popping off more than 40 points a year with little help.
The problem isn't everyone else around him. It's that he's 35 years old trying to keep up with some 22 year old kids on the ice.
This is why these old ass players keep getting weeded out.
There are very few players in the league above 34 that are actually productive. Some recently turned 34.
Here is the whole list of guys 34 and above.
https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2020/points&limits=age-34-46
Only 2 even close to being a PPG player are OV and Bergy.
You got 3 above .7 ppg. And then a whole lot of salary for rapidly declining players.
Meanwhile, you are gonna tell me he's worth 8 mil a year? Hell no he's not.
He's slotted right there with a slew of people who are in rapid decline.
He's not the player he use to be. That's not because of everyone else around him. It's because he's 35 freaking years old.

You look at that whole list of 35+ and you see how sad the lot are. That's his future because it's already the now.
Why the hell would anyone give up that much for him.
They wouldn't. He's not worth nearly what they are asking here.
A 2nd. That's what he's probably worth. At trade deadline with ANA retaining cap.

The day the flames give up the 16 OA pick and Bennett for a 35 year old $8M player who is averaging 40 points a season now is The day Treliving is tossed out the front door. Ridiculous proposal.

1) we’d be retaining
2) Getzlaf puts up more than that
3) Getzlaf is a better center than most of centers on Calgary
