Description

NJ moved Hall in order to gain some assets for him as he was unlikely to re-sign.

How about acquiring a Hall replacement with the same logic, but this time getting a hometown boy who's much more likely to re-sign with the team - Johnny Gaudreau?

As he has two years left, I think he'll be a tad more expensive than what NJ got from Hall. But I think that trade can give us some precedent on how to pull this off.

What's the point? That NJ pick is likely higher one. If VAN drops from a playoff spot, they'll retain that pick and give a 2021 pick in it's place, which is likely also a lower than the NJ one.

Well its supposed to be lower, gaudreau's contract status is still unknown and if he leaves for nothing I wouldn't give them a pick that good

Yep, was already sad enough with this year's hits leaders (Coleman & Simmonds) being moved at the deadline.

yeah no thanks. NJ's top 6 is already small enough as is, Gaudreau is okay but personally I don't even like him all that much. that 2021 1st could easily be top 10 or even top 5, NJ isn't going to be competitive soon anyways so it doesn't make much sense trading away a potential huge piece of the future for 3-4 years of prime Gaudreau (at best) when the team still isn't good. I'm also still pretty high on Boqvist, not really the least bit interested in this deal to be honest with you.
