As is your attempt. Bad offer gets a bad offer in return. and the world keeps spinning.

I would think ten more times to give our first round for Hertl, not to mention the addition of Mittelstadt. He is of course a very good player, but he was seriously injured and he has only two years remaining on contract.

That would be a terrible deal for Buffalo. Cozens and Jokiharju should be a bright future for Buffalo. Not to mention the first pick of 2020, which may be Raymond, Holtz, Rossi or some other player.

This trade will never happen because Hertl would never waive. But you can’t think that Jokiharju a really good 20 year old defenseman, Dylan Cozens who is looking like a solid player, and a top 10 pick, for a injured center with 2 years left on his contract..

Out side of one big year Tomas has never broken 50 pts and Sam Reinhart looks like a better player than Tomas right now.
I am not a scout, but based on their comments this is huge draft.
Mittelstadt is only 21 years old and has 39 pts in 114 NHL game, hardly a bust, and hardly a useless prospect.
Hertl's contract is done in two years, so this may be very short rental.
Buffalo tried to jump start the rebuild and that resulted in a last over all finish.
This is a very good offer for Hertl, I think it would be a mistake to give up that much for him.
IMO the Sharks would jump at this trade, if they were in a rebuild.

Rampant, blind homerism at its worst.

Counter-offer: Sam Reinhart for Tomas Hertl and the Tampa Bay first.

Reinhart is better on the ice (0.6375 ppg vs. 0.618) and despite being two years younger, has played in 400 games vs. only 280 for Hertl. Moreover, Reinhart is a RFA so is under team control for at least 3 more years while Hertl is a UFA after two more seasons.

In real life, Doug Wilson would jump at this offer. In real life, Jason Botterill would ask for the Tampa Bay first from Wilson instead of Sorensen and get it. On CapFriendly, San Jose guys think Hertl >> Barzal.

LOL, I love your comments about Hertl v Reinhart and Ristolainen.
I know your trades would never happen.
Sabre fans do not understand rebuilding and think every team should be good in 2 years.

BUT imagine your trades Reinhart to SJS for Hertl and Tampa's first.
Ristolainen to ANA for Boston's first.

Buffalo loses a consistent pt producer for a #2 center and a first, then trades one of their 4 RHD for another first.

This free up about $7,000,000 of cap space to get another first from the Rangers when they trade Hunwick for Lundqvist and Carolina's first.
Leaving them enough cap to go after Galchenyuk to replace Reinhart.
That would give then 5 picks among the top 38.
A true Machiavellian rebuild on the fly.
