Ottawa trade with NJ and NYR to draft the best C D and G

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2020
Published: Jun. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This AGM is based on Ottawa getting the picks based on preliminary standings; ie. #2, #3, and #21.

Ottawa will ideally want a center and a defenseman (Drysdale), but Drysdale may be a bit high at #3. The NYI pick will likely be too late to be able to select Askarov.

As such, after picking Byfield/Stutzle at #2 Ottawa can trade down with NJ to #6 (where they should still be able to take Drysdale), while moving up with their later 1st rounder. Ottawa then use their 2nd's to move up enough to select Askarov, and walk away from the 1st round with the best C, best D, and best G of the draft.

depending on what the "something extra" is NJ probably accepts that, well done. Stutzle is exactly the guy they need

I don't know what the add would be, that's why I left it open. I figured that moving up from 6 to 3 is more valuable than 21 to 17 though, so NJ would need to add. Any suggestions?

honestly not sure. would they be interested in Zacha? he could be part of the deal, or one of the Devils better prospects? (Walsh, Foote, Merkley)

Yeah I was thinking Zacha or one of those prospects too. I wasn't sure if NJ fans would think it was too much though. Ottawa would probably be happiest with Foote/Zacha/Merkley, in that order.

Fun fact, 2003 was the last draft where the top defenseman was selected outside of the top 5. I wouldn’t bank on Drysdale being there at 6.

Only problem with that is I don’t think Drysdale makes it to 7, LA or Ana might gobble him up since I think everybody would agree Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, and Raymond are all guaranteed to go in the top 6 probably top 4.

not a chance in hell OTT drafts Askarov, they do not need a G, and not a chance in hell OTT trade down to grad a Dman, Drysdale going to be picked 5th, and OTT needs High end fowards than a redundant Dman....

Yeah after posting this yesterday I reconsidered, and think Ottawa would probably try to use their 2nd's to move up, rather than trading down one of their high picks.

As for Askarov though, why wouldn't they consider picking a franchise goalie? Are they really going to put all their eggs in the Sogaard basket?

they have Hogberg, Sogaard, Daccord, gustavsson,Mandolese in the pipeline, they have more pressing need up front than a G.

The 6’4” Mandolese posted a save percentage of 92.5% with the Cape Breton Eagles, the highest mark in the QMJHL for goalies with at least fifteen games played. He signed his entry-level contract in April, and it appears the plan is for him to start the 2020-21 season in the ECHL.

Hogberg is also the reason OTT did not compete with detroit for last place, he got OTT like 8-9 loser points....
