If Botts panics and trades our first for help now

Description
I'd probably keep the pick. I can see it being likely Botterill will panic for immediate results to keep his job. Might need to add a touch to the MTL trade but idk. Just a what if.

You're not running away with it though, correct? Seems somewhat even to me.

No not running away since I wanna keep Domi. His value really hasn't decreased much, its just that this whole season he was playing with 3rd line linemates in Lehkonen, Byron, Weal, Armia. This was only because we got hammered with injuries (including Domi's buddy Drouin), so imo if we go Drouin - Domi - Suzuki Domi could get to 70 pts again.

I've been a huge Domi fan since watching him play in Buffalo for the Yotes in his early years. Super underrated guy.

So you are not lottery protecting the pick?
It seems like teams in the 5-8 range have won the lottery several times in the last few years.

Also, in looking at all of the draft prospects, it is crazy to think that every draft prospect from now forward were born after 9/11 (01).
That was only 1 year after the Jackets started their inaugural season in 2000.

Assuming its after the lottery and we're 7. If it's top 3 we keep the pick for sure and Botterill doesn't have the stones to trade the pick before the lottery.

Would you trade Domi for #7 straight up?

Nope, since Domi could put up 70 pts again in BUF. We'd ask for a bit more, probably a prospect.

There is no more assurance that Puljujarvi will turn into a top-6 forward than there is that either Marcus Davidsson or that second in a very deep draft won't turn into a middle-6 forward, and Curtis Lazar has already proven himself to be a fine bottom-6 depth forward, so once you've traded for Joel Armia, I see no need for the Puljujarvi acquisition -- it's too risky.

Anybody who thinks Domi alone is worth more than the 7th, 8th or 9th pick in this draft is a homer.

Every trade is an overpay. Lazar had more success this season than Puljujarvi ever did in the NHL. Not trading the 7th OA to Montreal that's for sure.

Risto is overrated but I like the trade for Dallas. Ask for Faksa and a pick and I pass, but straight up I take it. Sad cause you prolly could have gotten a lot more for him a season or two ago

Fair enough. I'm thinking Buffalo could get a better deal from a cap strapped team like Tampa though.

I’d consider moving Domi for the pick but I’m not throwing in Armia for Johansson and a 22 year old who doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Armia is an underrated player who is getting better every year, if you want us to take on the cap space then you’re paying for it not taking a solid player too.

I don't really want you to take cap space he was still a solid player for us last year and we sucked a$$. Was just looking for an upgrade but if he's worth more than a second and a low/mid tier prospect over Johansson especially with both being rentals, then its fine.

Yeah I’d probably rather have Armia over MoJo and Asplund. Not because I don’t like MoJo, but because Armia brings size (which very few of our forwards have) and he’s also a right handed winger, and him and Gallagher are the only NHL right shooting wingers we have right now. The value is probably fair, but our lines get screwed up if we trade him for another left handed forward.

Although Buffalo might need to add a bit to Domi for the first, depending on which number it is and who is available.
