domi gets 70 pts easy

Created by: zk97

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2020

Description
Domi can hit 70 points again. The solution is really simple. Give him linemates. In 2019-20m he was playing with Lehkonen, Byron, Weal, Armia. 3rd and 4th liners. If he plays with Drouin and a legit 2RW (maybe Suzuki, maybe not), he could hit 70 pts again. Maybe even 80.

Notes:

If you want sign Evans to 2.5Mx8 😂
<2RW that I signed>, Drouin, Domi and Suzuki all rotate around on the second line. Maybe even Kotkaniemi.
Poehling, Fleury will bounce around from NHL to AHL so that they can play as much as possible.
Give Howard another chance. If he fails, trade/send him down. If he succeeds, then trade <other backup goalie>.

I think let him play C with Drouin and Gallagher. He got 72 pts with Drouin and Shaw, Gallagher should be an upgrade.

I think Kovalchuk or Suzuki could play RW with Danault and Tatar. Kovalchuk had 8 pts in 8 games on that line while Gallagher was hurt and was arguably a better fit than Gallagher was, although it was a small sample.

Whatever happens; to get the most out of Domi I think he needs to be at C and he needs to play with a winger who is good around the net. The line also needs to have speed, which is why I think he plays better with guys like Drouin or Byron than Armia, Kovalchuk, and Suzuki.

I agree Howard probably won't accept that, but with only 2/27 wins, 4.20 GAA, .882 SV%, what other options does he have?

Why would we sign Howard when we have Demchenko & Primeau? We would end up paying for him to play somewhere else, just like Kinkaid.

I signed him only for 700K because of that. If Demchenko/Primeau end up playing in the NHL, we trade Howard for FC or a late 7th. We could then also just trade Khudobin.

He would get to start as the backup, play a couple games, maybe even MTL would scratch Price and let Khudo and Howard play.

Even with his atrocious season, No way Howard signs that cheaply he's not wasting his time on a one year $700K deal he'll want at least 1 x $3m which is the going rate for backups.

In your scenario, I would keep Byron at least another year. He is very useful when healthy and we could get more if we wait. He is also very useful. I would also keep Domi. He indeed played with 3rd liners last year. With better linemate, I think he is a 60-65 point player with grit, which is what we need .

I think his 72 point year is a career year for him. He’s a 50-60 point player imo.

He got 70 playing with 2nd liner Drouin and 3rd liner Shaw. He can probably score 70 again no problem. Remember he was the 12th overall pick

Domi got to 72 pts have his best career shooting season by a long shot (13.8%). His next best pt season was also his next best shooting % 52pts on 11.5%. All of his other years he was under 10%. Is it possible with better line mates maybe, I just don’t think it’s realistic though.
