I don’t think Ottawa does this, I wouldn’t do the Montreal trade for the oilers. That’s just so much to give up for him..

Detroit knows how desperate most teams in the league are. They will easily ask for more
Ottawa declines
I would only do the montreal trade if gallagher signs an extension

Think so? Neal could add 20-25 goals per season.
Contract I really don’t see as an overpayment as long as he can be played in top six he still produces his career averages. Edmonton doesn’t fit because Leon’s line is full and his skating isn’t good enough for mcdavids line. Doesn’t make him bad by any stretch. I think wings win this

Montreal one because of giving up a lot I thought of adding conditions about resigning or production based.

Yeah he isn't that bad a player but hes getting older amd that contract isn't great. The thing is detroit needs to do it less than Edmonton needs to move him so they're gonna ask for more.

I respectfully disagree. Edmonton can work around that deal signing a cheaper back up and 3c and keep him and use him. I’d honestly be just fine with that but he really doesn’t hurt Edmonton as much as some lead on. Detroit’s goal scoring needs a boost really bad and Neal has proven to be a lock for 20-25.
Option to expose to Seattle if it doesn’t work. Something tells me Detroit won’t be exposing better options with most important pieces being exempt.

Detroit is rebuilding, they don't need that guy or that contract, it makes 0 sense to trade a valuable draft pick for a guy they have 0 use for. You would have to pay them a large amount for them to take him, he's a cap dump and that's it. Like edm first and pool party as starters

I'm sorry Detroit isn't giving a 2nd for Neal and a 3rd! That's insane you can disagree all you want it will NEVER happen.

I don’t think so. Brown hasn’t worked out in Ottawa they have to be ready to move on from.
1st rounder is the 3rd a mid round
3rd rounder they have a bunch not much of a loss.
JP is nhl ready and 22 Years old good size and frame very solid skater
Benning is still young but very useful RH defender.

Montreal, Ottawa and Detroit all say no.

Montreal says no because they wouldn't even accept the trade for Gallagher if you took out both 2nd rounders going to Edmonton, that's how much they like Gallagher.

Ottawa says no because you arent giving them anything worth a 1st round and expect them to give up Brown on top of it.

Detroit says no because they dont see Neal as a positive contract, yes he played better this year but not enough to live up to his contract. They would expect the extra pick to take his contract, not give it positive value.

I don't think the gap in value between Brown and Puljujarvi is that steep. No other team trading for Puljujarvi is giving up a prospect as good as Logan Brown. Even if Puljujarvi is more valuable, the difference isn't more than a 3rd or 4th to me. Benning is fine, but he's a bottom pair D, and his inclusion isn't enough to get Ottawa to add a 1st.

Not even sure why you'd want Thornton, but paying him that much is crazy.

It would be very costly for Edmonton to keep Gallagher so with no extension just rental I think that’s huge price to pay. Understand if Habs decide to resign.
Neal is able to play top six minutes give you 20-25 goals. Yes it’s a salary dump for oilers but Detroit is getting a guy still putting up career averages. Only reason not a fit for oilers is playing with mcdavid foot speed struggles. No room on second line. Using on third line production suffers like any player would and that’s when contract is an issues. That’s what went wrong in Calgary too. His contract has no clauses that’s a nice safety net just in case he does decline. I think he’s a good add for a second rounder fact offering a third too I think is a steal.
Ottawa deal i think everyone has a different value for JP.
The ask as far as I’ve heard is a 1st and prospect for JP I see brown being the prospect Ottawa is ready to move on from more than any other Edmonton would also consider. The first is the third of Ottawa’s 3 and are getting an nhl ready prospect with nhl experience. The aspect I think that gets lost with JP is he’s over seas by choice. He’s completely capable of stepping into an nhl line up. His got a big frame and great skater and is defensively responsible. Adding Benning for a third just felt like a nice fit and very reasonable for someone they can keep around for a couple years
I did over pay for Thornton but that was because I really want him for that role to bring benson in full time.

Holland is building a long-term contender.

Gallagher is a nice player, but he's 28, a rental, undersized and has a career high of just 54 points.

Lavoie and the 1st will have a far greater impact on the roster than Gallagher will for just 1 year. And if you re-sign him, you're paying for decline years.

I don't think Holland would make this trade.

With Gallagher gaining two seconds for deep draft.
The first is the year after which should be a late 1st.

I went with only a one year prove it deal before a multi year. I believe he’s legit but singing term after one break out season seems like a risk cap strap teams shouldn’t do. Also think with the state of the league and flat cap it can be in his best interest to take a smaller pay bump now cash in better later. Thornton I know is sizeable overpayment however I think it’s very important to get a veteran with his vision and experience on that line to give benson a real shot at success. Clearly well past his prime but the traits he still has are traits I want benson exposed to like puck protection, vision, hockey iq in general. Over pay to ensure getting the guy I see as best fit for the current need.

Montreal won’t trade Gally unless it’s an overpayment.
