Is Labanc really thought of that highly in SJ? I'm not sure Dallas would give one of those pieces for him, much less all 3?

Pavelski's contract is the issue in Dallas I think. Lebanc goes to Dallas, is likely to produce AT LEAST at the rate Pavelski did for about $3 million less a year, not to mention the age difference.

If the deal is seen more as a contract dump (which I they are), I would say the deal is pretty bang on. Honka is never going to play in Dallas; and attempts to move him for merely a 3rd were unsuccessful. So to move a not-so-great contract for a playet who can replace Pavelski in the line up for what really is just a 1st? Good deal for Dallas.

Certainly appreciate the opinion, but I don't believe perception is reality on this one. Dallas isn't unhappy at all with Pavs. Production may be down, but it's more the system. He's not alone on the roster from that regard. He's been a great addition, and price is just what the market dictated. You need veterans like him, this team is built more for the playoffs than reg. season, so still time for the acquisition to bear fruit.

Honka is definitely done here. 3rd not going to happen, that's agreed. Wonder is now, can we still get a 4th or 5th this offseason based on his play overseas? Time will tell.

And imo - a 1st never enters the discussion with Labanc.

Looking at Dallas, I also don't see the deal happening really. I see the logic, but Dallas is in win now mode. And yes, Pavelski is going to help that more than Lebanc at this stage. The deal smacks more of rebuild on the fly than winning a Cup with Seguin and Benn in the line up.

Further Dallas' system is, well, thin. So the 1st is needed. Couple that with Nill actually having some wiggle room with the cap, and they can add some offense (which I hear is the objective this offseason).

I can see why the deal makes sense, and why it doesn't I guess. When you can argue both sides, usually a deal that doesn't work well lol

Little would have to be coming back in the Burns deal

Pavs signing was terrible. He was never gonna be a good fit for our system. I’m glad we didn’t give Zucc the contract he got but Nill avoided that trap and fell right into another. I think the value is fair but I don’t see Nill doing it as he’s pretty much admitting he was wrong and using a first rounder to dig himself out of it. I’d like to see them hire a more offensive coach and see what things look like. Hopefully he’ll be taken in the expansion

Dallas says yes. Get rid of Pavelski, ditch Honka and lose a 1st somewhere in the 20s AND get Labanc in return. Where can I sign?
