It's really a simple offer. Howden hasn't had much of a chance in New York and the hawks are looking to shed salary, it's a win win.

I was curious how this was going to be received, but I like these trades from the Hawks point of view as well. I'd draft a center with the #9OA pick.

I debated buying out Seabrook, but it might be easier to deal his contract after this season or buy him out. I don't think the hawks would draft a center 9th. I think there's a legit possibility the hawks take Askarov. Saad is another interesting piece. Do they try to move him, or keep him? Would they resign him?

I mean if you consider Maatta quality sure, but his foot speed isn't great and he's really nothing special.

well it fills our needs in the LHD slot... Smith and Staal are done so we need some... Howden is terrible in NYR so we are more than happy to accept

BTW love your profile pic

They're going to just play him and if he gets hurt again...LTIR. There really isn't a point in buying him out. I truly hope they don't draft Askarov. I'm against taking ANY goalie in the 1st round let alone top 10. If they did...ok I'd live with it. I can see and acknowledge the talent he has, but I simply don't agree that he'll be ready in even 3 years. It'll 4-5 years before we see him in the NHL.

Seabs won't get bought out...the buyout on his contract is not good until another two years. Saad won't get moved unless it is at the TDL if they don't make the playoffs is my guess. Saad is way too important of a piece for the Hawks, he was on pace for 30 goals this year and was playing arguably his 2nd best year of hockey. Askarov would be a mistake if the Hawks drat #9. He's 17 years old and goalies take the longest to make the NHL....we are talking 4 years away at a minimum. If Perfetti, Rossi, Lundell or Holtz are on the board, they should take one of them. If Sanderson is on the board, the Hawks should consider him as well.

Also, Smith will likely get bought out. Highmore has proven he can play in the NHL and the Hawks in this situation need the cap space for bonuses even if only 1/2 those bonuses are reached.

And why would the Hawks retain more on Maatta then his buyout?

Because the retention is only for two years versus four years of buyout. I'm pretty indifferent about that, I wouldn't mind just buying him out if they can't trade his full contract. I would hope the hawks take a forward in the first round, as the defense is well-stocked and there should be some movement in the forward group in the next couple years.
