Description
An optimistic view on Shaw, you don’t need to comment that he will never play again, I’m aware that is the rumor.

Dehann is likely exposed in expansion with Keith, Murphy, Brodin being protected.

Rather have him the extra year while Toews and Kane are still in their prime.

A fair point, but who says someone else does not trade and extend him, are we counting the wild out of the group of interested groups?

My point, although not explicitly stated, is that Trading Dylan Strome for Brodin is not needed.

The whole point of moving Brodin would be to address the need for a top 6 center. We have no need for another defenseman even if we did trade one. Pretty easy no for Guerin I'd think

I would probably agree with this. The notion that we probably wouldnt trade Strome for another forward also fits the bill that the Wild probably wouldnt trade Brodin for another defenseman unless its a prospect but even then unlikely. You trade out of surplus for need. Johansen for Jones was a good example of that, although one team certainly regrets it more than the other

I might eat my words on this one but I don't think he'll make it to UFA. I think he'll either sign an extension with the Wild or get traded and sign an extension with the new team. Just a gut feeling on my end.

Just a point of personal preference, but I think Brodin would play top pair if we were to acquire him. Not sure if I like Keith there anymore.

Am I wrong in my assumption that the wild are transitioning into a rebuild? I would think future picks, (and picks from Chicago a So So team) might interest you guys.

I would estimate that the Chicago pick is around number 16-20 overall next season, assuming we make the playoffs.

anyways, if you don’t like the trade I suppose that is reasonable, but I don’t know what the wild are doing at this point.

It would be terrible asset management by the wild to not have him either locked up or traded at next years deadline. I think you are correct.

That's a tough question to answer because I really don't know. Extending Spurgeon makes me think we're trying to contend but trading Zucker makes me think we want to rebuild. I do know that our owner wants to be competitive every year so I'd be surprised to see us move a Brodin or Dumba for picks, and even more surprised if it happened that those picks wouldn't be for this year's draft

*Sigh* So here's how we best explain the Wild's complicated situation, the best that we can. The Wild a year ago looked like they should've been transitioning into a rebuild mode. However, will the emergence of Fiala and the expectations of Kaprizov, the Wild and our fanbase are energized into thinking that we're close to being a contender again.

However, the sad reality is that we should be in rebuild mode. We need a 1C, we need to either acquire or develop a top goaltender and those are huge, glaring holes that we have. Those are required to win a cup and naturally a team should rebuild to accomplish this. However...our owner does not want to rebuild and wants us to make the playoffs year after year. I haven't minded the decisions Billy G has made so far so I hope we can avoid rebuilding but I'm not sure how we do it. It'll be interesting to see what he decides to do.

Just from an outside POV I don’t think the wild have the future pieces (or current core sorry) for a legitimate run at the cup. You guys have been stuck in purgatory for as long as I can remember and I think it’s time to consider a down year or two to get some top end talent.

In any case, good luck in the phase 2 this year, because we all know a play in loser is getting Atleast a spot.

Thanks for that, we're going to need it against that skill of Vancouver!

And I agree with you. We really need a top 3 pick in one or multiple years to really get the talent we need to win a cup. However, there's enough decent talent on this team to stay away from good lottery odds. So we'll either have to get lucky or literally strip this team all the way down in order to get those picks. That's what's so maddening. We're never good enough to win the cup but never bad enough to snag the best talent. That's also why we were so mad you guys got #3OA last year even though you had a better season. It just seems like luck's never on our side.

Regardless, I love this team. But you're right. We've been stuck in this purgatory and I'm not sure how we get out of it.

Low key, not trying to brag but also totally trying to brag, but you guys swapped spots with us (the spot that won the lottery) on the last day of the season, a spot which I think you held for awhile but lost because you lost so many games down the stretch.

Sorry mate, now THAT would drive me really crazy to know.

Edit- looked it up you guys went 3-6-1 in the final ten games.

Lol feel free to brag. It honestly felt so unfair to us that it was kind of funny. Imagine watching one of your biggest rivals win 3 cups and then get lucky in the lottery just a few years later. Even our beat writer (whose pretty unbiased as far as beat writers are concerned) had to say "you've got to be kidding me?!?!?" I was honestly so mad at your luck I just laughed.

Supposedly, from a source at the 2018 draft lottery, the Blackhawks were one number off from drafting Dahlin. Moreover, that number looked like it was going to be picked, but got knocked out by the sabers ball at the last second.

Wow. That would've really made me mad. Because even though you got Dach last year, I like Dahlin better. Could've been the new Keith...which for obvious reasons I would not have liked.
