Dream Sequence

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2020
Published: Jun. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
One lucky throw of the dice, one UFA signing, one trade, and Trevor Zegras ready to step in = contender in 2021-2022

Not sure whether Ryan Miller is ready to retire yet, hence his appearance on the IR

Stutzle probably isn't going to step directly into the lineup this season, which is why Comtois is shown at LW

Once DeMelo and Weegar are in the fold, we can finally indulge Leafs Nation in their hunger for Josh Manson

Draft picks:
31st overall = Tyson Foerster or Helge Grans
36th overall = John-Jason Peterka or Lukas Reichel
45th overall = Kasper Simontaival or Topi Niemela
67th overall = Luke Evangelista or Brock Faber

Frankly.. I think Leafs should add higher pick and Ducks should give us other prospect/player other than Jones. Like Lundestrom..

It's amazing that 2 years ago Manson was a +34 with 37 points. In the last 2 years he is -18 with only 25 points. That falloff in production is extraordinary.

I'd be quite happy with that counter-offer. I was thinking LW for LW (Clifford, not Kapanen).

Thi thing with Leafs is that they love Cliffords leadership and things of that nature so I wouldnt think even if they got Jones they would not re-sign Cliffy. But Lundestrom offers a nice prospect who has limited offensive upside but strong defensive upside of a guy like Radek Faksa on 3rd line in near future.

A very accurate prospect appraisal, as always!

Don’t understand why you trade Weegar for Rakell, then Kapanen for Manson. Seems like a wash to me, maybe even a downgrade. Just draft high and sign DeMelo if you want

I'm surprised but I kind of like this.
The only issue is Leafs would probably still need to deal one of Johnsson or Kerfoot for picks only.

There are other options that I'd like the Leafs to explore before this, but I don't mind it as a potential move should others fall through.

For the Ducks, I think these are fantastic moves - Benefits both the present and the future, imo.

Seconded, signed a Ducks fan.

Sure we need another top-4 D-man, preferably a RHD, but there's really no reason to cut bait on Manson. Kapanen produces as much as Ricky but without the same potential. If we're going to be moving Ricky and Lars we might as well pair them up to acquire a quality d-man as well as retain Manson if we intend to improve rather than making moves for the sake of making them.

Manson is 28 and signed through 2022. Weegar is 26 and I'm signing him through 2024. I also come out ahead on some ancillary items, depending upon how well I negotiate @SammyT_51 's improvement of my idea.

Fine. When you come up with a "quality d-man" who is an improvement on Weegar and you think will be available in return for Rakell and Larsson, post that trade and we can all look at it. Until then, just saying "Well, I think there's a deal out there that is better" is chicken$hit. And if you think I'm "making moves for the sake of making them" maybe you haven't noticed that we have 6 guys who will be vying for playing time at LW next season, 4 guys who will be vying for playing time at LD next season, or who Kasper Simontaival and Topi Niemela are.

I can't tell if you're taking a jab or making a genuine observation. Just in case its the former, let's not pretend like 2020 Nylander = 2019 Nylander. Kid was a cap dump this time last year. FWIW, I wouldn't do that KK for Manson deal. I'd want Liljegren+ if we're moving Manson.

Surely Laf makes Rakell kind of redundant? Kid will probably score 30+ this coming season. Moreover, its not like Rakell can slot into that 2LW with Comtois/Milano expected to secure that position in the not too distant future. It would depend on what's available, but if we get Laf, I'd like to see Rakell moved to the RW (not holding my breathe on success with him there) or traded for help at RD. I'd personally try and go younger than Weegar, likely taking a bigger risk on a prospect (depending on availability of course).

The signing of DeMelo is fine as it's only a cash investment. However, if you're giving away assets to bring in another roster D-man, you've gotta move Manson. There is the expansion draft to consider. Can't protect them all. Personally, I'd prefer moving Manson for a RD prospect or just keeping him and hoping he turns it around. I'd be happy going into the draft with Lindholm, Fowler and Manson as our top 3 and leaving Gudbranson exposed.

As OldNYIfan said, the acquisition of KK was to balance LW and RW. RW is likely to remain a weak point for us though, unless Terry gains 30 lbs and starts making smarter plays.

Nah not taking a jab, obviously Nylander is a lot better this year but its still funny to see how people change their thoughts on players so quickly. Its more of a change of how people view Manson, I think he didn't have a great year and now everyone is saying hes a bottom four guy but last year he was viewed as a definitive top pair guy

"Meh"...Manson has struggled the past couple seasons, but so has the team. I don't know why he's constantly put under the spotlight (TOR fans want him cheap I guess). Of course he's going to look worse when no offence is being generated and he's constantly under pressure from the league's best. He's not an elite top pairing D-man so of course he's going to struggle. That doesn't mean he's bad. Even Lindholm has looked pretty shoddy at times this past season. Kind of like saying XX player on the Blues sucked last season, but then they go on a win streak and get the cup. Players tend to fall out of sync a lot easier than they get in sync with each other. ANA is just at the bottom of a downturn, but they'll soon start climbing back up. The issue is whether Manson will be too old once we've recovered. I think there is an argument to move him on those grounds, but not at some bottom rate just because the team is bad right now. His skill and skating ability hasn't changed, he's just making poor decisions under pressure and in a new system under new coach. I see no reason why he wouldn't thrive again in a better environment on a team at their peak. The guy is 28, not 33, not even close to declining.
