Sure, if we just pretend that Murphy doesn't have 4 less years on his deal lol. and isn't a massive offensive upgrade. We can also pretend like Dylan Strome would approach anywhere in the ballpark of his current production without Debrincat or Kane dragging him along.

But why pretend when we can be real.

we can also pretend that the hawks dont need an offensive upgrade on defense with several of their top guys knowing how to play offense. Oh yeah We can also pretend that Trouba is a "massive upgrade" when he only had 1 more goal and 6 more assists and his corsi percentage was a lot lower with the same offensive zone percentage. But why pretend when we can be real?

the issues with the Rangers defensive system is well documented and clearly shown (don't need to look harder than Shattenkirk/Pionk's "improvement" upon leaving there). Also Trouba would get significant PP time in Chicago which would massively increase his point totals. Seems like a no-brainer.

Murphy's only signed for 2 years...

Why would he when the Hawks have Boqvist as the PP QB and for $7M cheaper

I must have missed that I just saw
Calgary gives hanafin and a 3rd
Calgary gets Dylan strome

Calgary gives Hanifin and a 3rd.
Calgary gets Connor Murphy and Dylan Strome.

Or better said, Calgary deals from a point of strength: LHD, to address a gap: top 4 RHD. And address another major issue (Assuring that Lindholm doesn't have to play C and Backlund doesn't have to be in the top 6)

Ya that’s definitely a lot better with Murphy. Sorry for the mix up.

because Chicago had the 4th worst PP offense in the league and I'd think you'd want to do better than that.

Good examples, but the issue is that he won't be on CHI's PP. Boqvist is on an ELC and he's likely their fixture going forward. But I hear ya.

How many NYR posts have you seen where the NYR go our and get another goalie? I don't think I've seen any. I get your point on Shat and Poink. It's valid, but if a team drafts a PP Dman in the top 10...they're not likely to acquire a $7M Dman that does the same thing.

I gotta give you credit for creativity and for such a big trade with three teams it makes sense from a lot more angles than most three way ideas I’ve seen. This is a big one good job. Still tho it’s very far fetched

BoQ has 41 games in the NHL and about to turn 20 years old, he also only took over the PP for the last 10 games or so. He will be fine and cost $7M less. Behind him we also have Mitchell coming up this next season who's another PP specialist also on the right side. We don't need to spend that money and don't need to give up a young 2C in strome or a solid defender in murphy. There is not a chance Chicago would entertain this.

Yeah it's really just about having a steady reliable dman who can play all 3 zones to the transition to the new core and to have some insurance in case one of Mitchell/Beaudin/etc turns into more of a Gustav Forsling/Ville Pokka

We will do better than that as Boqvist gets better. You also don't have to be an ass to anybody who disagrees with what you say. I gave my input the first time without being rude but you immediately snap to trying to insult other people's intelligence on this website for no reason other than you are upset

that's correct. You're getting Trouba because he can PK AND PP AND handle the puck 5v5.

I'm with ya that they have solid D prospect, but I didn't think Mitchell was a PP specialist like Boqvist. Mitchell does play the PP, but he's more a methodical 2-way plaer...I thought. No???

Mitchell played on the PP in Denver. He's more known as a puck moving defender and transitioning out of the D zone then BoQ. He has a shot but not know for his shot like BoQ. Mitchell is more like a Keith type of player who did great on the PP but was never known for his shot either.

Yeah that's what I've heard as well. I'd probably compare Mitchell's skillset similarly to the guy he took over for in Denver: Will Butcher. Whether he can produce like him in the NHL remains to be seen. But he's similar in that he doesn't really have one specialty.

I think you're stretching it a bit. I really do like Trouba. The issue with the trade is that Murphy really did have as good of a year as Trouba did. It's pretty hard to argue he didn't. He's also $3M less. I don't think GMs are the types of guys that bet on opposite players upsides...while valuing their own players downsides.

As of today, my question is...why is Strome is this at all? $3M is $3M. Again I see you're points about Shat and Pionk, but it's possible he's not Shat and Pionk. So....I don't know why Strome's in this trade at all. The trade value of $3M is huge. Keep in mind that TOR gave up a 1st round pick for only 1 year, but as $6M.

***EDIT*** If I were the NYR...I'd just keep him. It's hard to sell a guy on a down year and expect another team to ignore his down year.

It's certainly far fetched because usually players of this caliber just get dealt for picks/futures, not other players on the same level.

Tried to address the main things:

-Calgary needs short term high end RHD help and could use a proper C
-Rangers need LHD help, but only either a short term vet or a long term cost controlled top 4 player.
-Chicago needs a reliable veteran RHD for when Murphy leaves in 2 years and Keith/Maatta leave in 3. (I don't think Seabrook has anything in the tank and will probably be on LTIR for a long time) and futures

While considering
a) Trouba doesn't want to go to Canada
b) Bowman has said he wants to deal Strome and the cost is not prohibitive, alluding to Dach being the firm 2C next season.

Because of how uniquely terrible the Rangers defensive system is. Again, you can take whatever on-ice metric you like (CF/xGF, etc) and take however much Pionk/Shattenkirk improved by upon leaving New York (I think in terms of Corsi, that's about a +7 - pretty sure Trouba fell by the same amount from last year) and then just give that to Trouba when he leaves NY. That's how big of an effect the Ruff/Quinn system has on players. It quite literally has nothing to do with individual players changing.

Just like Trotz joining your city rival. Went from a TERRIBLE defense with bad goalies...to much of the same players winning the Jennings. I get it. AND agree. BUT, I'm not going to be THAT GUY. Buying high on a player with a down year. I 100% hear you. I do like Trouba. It just doesn't make sense IMO.

sure you can be that guy. I'd say that Strome is most likely significantly less valuable in Stan Bowman's mind than on this website based on his comments. Once you factor that in, it becomes a lot more conceivable.
