The cap likely isn't going up for a couple of years. The effects of the losses of revenue this season will be felt for a few years, even with a new team and new TV deal.

expansion might cause a slight increase but not as big as what it would have been if not for this pandemic.

I heard on a sports show that its believed hall wants to sign long term even if that means not getting full value with the current cap crisis. Which for him I would believe and understand he’s on his 3rd team now.

Hall is a locker room cancer, send him to the Pens to finally end their Dynasty,

The cap was going to go up to like $88m in 2021 if not for the lockdowns, so $83m doesn't seem that far fetched when you factor expansion and TV deal.

Also keep in mind that a rising cap and higher escrow might be a better scenario for the NHLPA than a flat or lowering cap with lower escrow. A flat/lowered cap would be devastating to UFA's, and the NHLPA will try to find a solution that doesn't screw them over this offseason.

With his injury record and coming off two average seasons, and with only 3 55 point seasons, it would indeed be prudent of him to sign a max term deal while his stock is still high.

Yeah that's a BIG question mark for me. Not sure I'd want to take the risk on him for that reason, especially so soon after the Duchene saga (he's also not exactly a winner or lockerroom guy really)

The 88mil was never going to happen, that was just an upper limit on the projection. And that projection got thrown in the trash the second The league was put on pause.

Realistically, based on this season, the cap should be going down, but as you point out that is a bad options for both the league and the PA, but to compensate, that burden needs to be spread over several years.

I’m not sure to be honest. Just figured I’d pass on what I heard. From watching him and seeing probably every interview while with oilers I do think he is a guy wanting to win more than chase money. Time changes people the state the world in changes perspectives so we will see what happens.

I agree. This was just an experiment to see IF Avs could fit him in at that if they wanted to.
