Description

The Rask Russell trade is a way to creatively shed a little cap next year while filling some more veteran bottom 6 C needs. For Minny, they can either use him for the year, or buy him out now in a better position than with Rask since he has a year less on his contract. For the Oilers, Rask could be bought out for his final year if he doesn’t regain some form for fairly cheaply and the oilers are tight on cap trying to resign Nuge/Yamamoto. As for the rest, I think it all makes sense. The contracts assume conservative spending for all teams in face of a flat cap.

Doubt there will be a CBO. Very unfair to Seattle that would completely limit the amount of trades and quality of players they can get.

I'd much rather keep russell for one year than get rask for two. imo russell is better than rask, no point in making that deal.

Imo Rask makes zero sense, all we save is 1M and gain a year of contract. You might as well buy out Russel, his cap hit this year would be 3M I think and then next year would drop to 1M which would save us 2M from having Rask.

how so? teams would be buying out the poor players and would have to leave and extra player available due to the rules, i think the CBO would help Seattle

Allowing teams to get out from an ugly deal limits Seattle’s ability to offer picks to take it.
I just see it as limiting Seattle’s trading options significantly and I don’t think that will be in the nhls interest because trading gains interest from fans. They will be trying to do everything to recoup lost revenue Seattle’s expansion draft and hype around it nhl will want to strike gold. Some Gms might fight for it but highly doubt owners will support that idea since it’s just money out of pocket for them.
