Josh Ho-Sang

Created by: AnalyticsGeek
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2020
Published: Jun. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It has been emphasized by the majority of the Penguins fan base that they need a top 6 right winger since Conor Sheary isn’t good enough for their expectations. So far, I’ve explored several different options looking at right wingers of all different price ranges, and recently, I read an article that gave me an idea.

Obviously there have been question marks about Josh Ho-Sang’s work ethic & attitude in the past, but based on the stats given from the time he’s spent in the NHL, he’s proven that he deserves a full time roster spot. He is an above average play driver in terms of generating shots & possession plus is a good defensive Forward. It appears the Islanders never gave him a fair opportunity.

I think the Pens should take a chance on him & put with Sid. He will be cheap for 1 year, which is perfect for a flat cap league.

Here is the article I found: https://jfresh.substack.com/p/joshua-ho-sang-belongs-in-the-nhl

Hope y’all give it a read.

Dont see RedWings trading nice draft picks for injury prone goalie..who pens will dump one of 3 anyway...i think wings prefer JARRY at cheaper cost in assets & cap hit..WHEN ready to compete which we're not for 2 yrs

so where's the incentive for NJ to take Johnson?

        their need for LD?

doesn't matter anyway, the penguins aren't going to retain. There is no point.
It's a few hundred thousand more to just send him to WBS and then buy him out.
It's easier to trade him to a team in need. Probably due to injury.
We'll see. This team moved 2 bad defense men last year. Only 1 more left to move.

I don't mind this, basically a high reward risk for basically nothing. I'd also rather get a roster player instead of picks for Murray, but if that's the return then so be it I guess

Well, you got Adam Erne, a fast defensive-forward who would fit the system very well. I think teams are most likely going to give up picks, which can be used to get roster players.

I played LD in high school, doesn't mean they want me on the team. No point in picking up a useless defenceman that makes significant money and has 3 years left on his deal unless you're getting a nice pick or prospect for doing so.

If you don’t have to pay much for Ho-sang, I wouldn’t mind. Actually I could see a scenario where the isles don’t qualify him. If that’s the case I’d be down for it. I don’t think you’ll be able to get rid of JJ without paying something. I honestly think you’d have a better chance getting rid of Bjugstad than JJ. And I honestly think that is all you would need. Because there is no real need to spend 1.5 on Erne to be a healthy scratch. You can pay Lafferty, Angello, a. Johnson, etc almost half the cap hit to be that and give similar contribution.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, Ho-Sang could be a free agent so they can consider picking him up. You're right about JJ, he stinks. I just brought in Erne to try & get an extra piece in the Detroit trade. I like his speed, puck retrieval & defensive game.

you also aren't an NHL caliber defenseman. You for get JJ was an Olympian. It's not like he was some scrub.
As for his contract, it's basically 1 year and a buyout. As the buyout is the same cost as paying him for 1 year. So it's like a 2 for 1 get it over with.
And if a team needs a LD that's where you can see him going.

Truth is NJ is in a tough spot. They are a team that's rebuilding, in a high tax bracket. That's not exactly a magnet to attract guys to come play there.
When they traded Hall and Coleman and you can expect Palmieri to be gone next TDL, the writing was written on the wall. That's that.
The rebuild is on. If you are a 27+ year old FA looking to sign your next contract, the only reason to go there is over payment.
Which doesn't tend to do well. So if they need a stop gap maybe he fits.

I def agree that the Pens NEED is a Top 9 R-H - RWer, Ive been saying that since Kessel left.... Not that we needed to keep Kessel, we just needed some kind of replacement of a guy w/ a Right handed shot in Top 6 other than Rusty, that is a strong 5 on 5 player, can play that Left wall position on PP, & can help on entries on PP (carry puck into zone).
I just dont see Ho Sang being that guy... IDK tho maybe he is & just needs a change of team? But if he cant make the NYI yet, IDK if he is ready for Pens 1st line?
BUT who knows - Hockey is strange how dif players only fit some systems and some teams?? So u never really kno but Id like to see him prove himself some 1st.

I'm also glad u have become a McCabe fan too, lol
        - I will never understand why BUF fans hate him so much? Everytime we play BUF, McCabe does good & I've always liked his game. I bet he'd do great in Pens D system.

Yeah I don’t think it is likely for them to acquire or sign Ho-Sang, but if they do it would be a no risk move cuz it would be a cheap contract for pretty much no assets. He’s very skilled with the puck & plays a style very similar to Mitch Marner, but with more intensity.
