Larsson for Faksa

Created by: CD282
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2020
Published: Jun. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade is based on Larsson signing a reasonable extension, something like 4 x $4.5M, and taken from the comments section here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/334019&post_id=1477885

Thanks to SlevinKalevra for the idea.

Sub-plot: Jesse Puljujarvi returns!

https://twitter.com/lonnbergmari/status/1271150091081003011?s=21

I realize that the possibility of this happening is still slim, but the fact that he's leaving the door open is encouraging. No need for Holland to 'take whatever he can get' if he truly believes JP can play top-6.

I don't like trading a top-4 RHD, but Bouchard will be arriving very soon and the bottom-6 forwards are shaping up very nicely indeed.

I liked Chaisson's game for the oilers the last couple years. Better off to keep him, especially at a nice contract

Still not a huge fan of this trade. We could probably find a 3c in FA instead.

As a DAL fan, no. That pick is WAY too much.

Did you read the trade explanation??

In any case, your PP sucks and you should be targeting a guy like Chiasson.

I agree. I just needed the cap space and figured that it was easier to trade Chiasson than Neal, the other net-front PP guy. I'd rather keep Chasser because Edmonton's #1 PP in 40 years was 50% better with Chiasson than with Neal. That's huge.

Do you guys have any idea what the odds are that the 3rd turns into a player as good as Chiasson?

Meh. It's a late 2nd, it's probably not enough. If we can agree (I'm not sure we can) that Larsson is worth $4.5M and Faksa $2.75M, that's a $1.75M gap in value. What are the odds a late 2nd turns into an NHL player with that sort of value? Do you know?

I'm not either, to be honest. It was suggested by a Dallas fan and looked interesting so I thought I'd see what it looked like. I don't hate it either though... I guess it depends on how quickly Bouchard is ready to play top-4.

First, Larsson is not worth $4,5M.

Second, Faksa is worth more than $2,75M.

Third, no, we're probably not going to find an agreement because we both overvalue our own assets,

You're avoiding the question. Anyone can cherry pick successes. What are the odds?

I guess not. The Dallas fan mentioned in the Team Explanation thought $4.5M was reasonable for Larsson, that's the only reason I mentioned that number. And I looked through about 20 Dallas AGM's and half of them traded Faksa and the other half signed him for $2.5 - 3M so I just chose the median number.

Supposedly these fans that have made those contracts are not aware of the fact that defensively good centers get paid a tad more than their point amount suggests. Bonino, Eller, Beagle etc... Faksa belongs to the club, and is younger than these comparables.

Even despite the fact Faksa has had a relatively poor season, when compared to two last.

Sure, but you yourself have signed him for $3M in your AGMs, so my $2.75M should hardly be a point of contention.

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1760608

And your 5 year term is $3.5M - basically 1 minimum wage player apart.

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1754163

It's a strange nit to pick when none of us are actually privy the contract negotiations between the two parties.

Wouldn't give him much more than that.

Regardless, the trade doesn't work.
