I don't think Pittsburgh needs Montour. McCann is needed more.

👎 no thanks. I think they like McCann and aren’t willing to trade low on him. Montour had a rough year, so I don’t think they’d do McCann for him.

I think the problem with Montour is that he’s terribly miscast in Ralph Kreugers system. If Ristolainen is moved, then he should have a more appropriate role. Most scouts in the league know this, and It’s possible Montour is the best player in the deal.

Having said that, McCann is younger and cheaper and needed, Pittsburgh will need a replacement for Justin Schultz, but they need someone cheaper for the third pair.

The problem is though, most gm’s aren’t going to buy high after a player had a bad year regardless of how scouts might feel. I don’t think it’s worth the chance. Especially with the cap likely to stay at 81.5 next year. Plus the pens need a 3rd line center (which McCann fills that role well) with Bjugstad on the sideline all the time. I think with the fact that they were willing to part with Addison that they might have other plans to fill that 3rd pair RHD role.
