Description

The Buffalo trade is moving players for fresh starts. I believe Lazar can become a sniper if given the opportunity, if not you still have two others that can move into that spot with McDavid. Larson is a steady defensive type while Ristolainen is more offensive, which both teams need.
As for the Ottawa trade Anisimov is on his last year, if he works out he can sign a new contract. He’s good defensively and has played with Ennis before. Ottawa gets a veteran sniper to show the kids and a few draft picks to compensate. ( pick may need to be better)
Russell can still play but room needs to be made for the younger defensemen in the organization.
Talbot is a capable goalie that had a bounce back year and did well in Edmonton before his struggles. I think he’s going to become a number one again.

Larson plays with fellow Swede Dahlin to stay at home so Dahlin can be more offensive. Same as he did with Klefbom in Edmonton.
Benning is your six/ seven with Jokiharju until the kid takes over.
Sounds like they’ll trade Miller anyways.

While Benning may not be just the Defenseman the Sabres need, he a good addition. Last year:
he led Edmonton D-men with 8.2 hits/60.
he had only 45.8% OZstarts but had the best Defenseman PDO 1028.

Larsson is just the Defenseman that should be paired with Dahlin, for obvious reasons.

Puljujarvi could be a huge sleeper and may have the more potential than Mittelstadt.
I break the trade down as:
Ristolainen PP specialist for Larsson shut down specialist
Lazar potential for Puljujarvi potential
Hickey and 4th for Benning
IMO Buffalo wins all three.

I am not thrilled with trading Ristolainen but if this is the return, I am all in.
A defenseman who was traded for Hall one to one.
A forward taken 4 overall in 2016
A physical 6/7th defenseman,
I would gamble on Puljujarvi and make this trade.

Right now we have a glut of RHD, and many fans are expecting one to be moved for help at LD or at forward. There really just isn't a roster spot for a guy like Benning unless he's just as good on his off hand.

I like the way you're thinking with pairing a guy like Larsson with Dahlin. I am a little hesitant though as he's only signed through next season. Risto's extra year makes him more valuable to me.

And Lazar fills a role and brings energy to the Sabres in a way that we have badly needed. In that sense, his value to the team is probably a good bit higher than his trade value.

I don't mean to tear the proposal apart, I think it has good points. Just want to point out some potential issues.
