The draft and youth movement

Created by: MCfubar
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2020
Published: Jun. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Red Wings win the lottery sweepstakes but make a trade with Ottawa to drop down one place to draft second grabbing Byfield and gaining assets. Yzerman makes a move to get another 1st round pick. Youth is served as he Wings move forward, even though Yzerman grabs a couple free agents to fill holes in the roster while others continue to develop on the farm. The biggest news is Yzerman finds a way to rid the roster of a couple of underperforming vets: Abdelkader is cut, reporting down to GR to mentor youth and Nielsen is bought out.

Why would Anaheim want Dennis Cholowski? They need RD help not LD help Yeah well if Detroit has a chance to get Alexis Lafreniere we take him we need a franchise player and Lafreniere is a franchise player.

Although the Ducks would prefer RD help, they really need Dmen overall. Cholowski has shown the offensive acumen for being a future powerplay QB. He's still working on the defensive side, and has shown progress. By making the trade, the Ducks get a promising former 1st round pick for moving down from the last pick in the 1st round to the mid 2nd.

As far as Lafreniere, he is a legit elite wing. By moving down one spot, the Wings get a potentially elite center in Byfield that is almost a year younger than Lafreniere, and he is showing the same potential that Lafreniere was at this time in his career development. In addition to that, the Wings get mid-second round pick for Ottawa to get the NHL ready elite French Canadian face of the franchise they covet.

penguins decline.
I'd rather use Murray as a trade chip to move Hornqvist to Seattle than get a 2nd and an AHLer

Byfield isn't an elite Center.
He most likely isn't going 2nd over all either. Stuetzle is most likely going before him. He will probably go 4 or 5. As I'm sure the top Defensive prospect will go off the board too by 3, due to demand.
Defense is always run early. So expect Drysdale off the board earlier than expected.

The Ducks don’t need Dmen overall, they are more than fine at LD now and for the foreseeable future

Lindholm
Fowler
Djoos
Larsson
Guhle
Mahura
Thurn
Lacombe

Adding to that is not even remotely needed, you could even argue they need to move bodies at LD instead of adding them, easy pass from the ducks
