Another trade where we are going all-in when we clearly are not.

This leaves us with no cap space to sign guys the year after.

Also, Tatar provided what Hall did this year at half the price. Hall is going to get overpaid.

I don’t see him getting as much and specially with the current situation.

How much Tatar will receive in is next contract? Is going to be more than the half of Hall.

He will get 6Mx4 from MTL, probably a bit more on the open market. 7 years he will get $7 714 287 (oooof)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins isn't going anywhere, Don't see Hall signing with Montreal and he at least gets 7 x $9.5 at the very least.

No thanks on the Tatar Nuge swap. Nuge is 3 years younger and already better than tatar, can play center and wing, and is very good defensively

Pass on signing Hall, he may want MTL this off season because no one else who is remotely competitive can offer the same $ amount and they shouldn't tie up 8 million on him.

Why trade Tatar for a center? It's not a position of need anymore and RNH just takes time away from Suzuki and KK and provides less cap space to sign them.

Seems like most here just like the big ticket item and forget long term.
Hall would put the Habs into a cap nightmare come the 21 off-season.
No need to go there. IMO

Your numbers are all over the place.
What you give up on term you make up on salary.
The more term the less aav.
Unless you're a stud youngster.

By the time Petry signs his next deal he'll be 33 going on 34 when the contract kicks in.
No chance the Habs or any other team offers him a 5 year deal, much less 7.
This will be his last contract most likely and it should be around 3-4 years, max.
While good now he's an aging dman whos a bit of a liability defensively but can put up points for now.
Hes definitely not first pairing material and isn't a power play quarterback.
Can't see his new contract being worth more than what he's getting now and will probably even go down in aav but heavy on the bonuses.
