Description
IMO, the Oil need a 3C more than Athanasiou (who is really more of a winger). AA has a lot of offensive potential, more than Faksa, but isn't as great of a fit. I don't think McD needs that kind of speed with him on his line, he needs crafty shifty players, like Ennis who I think puts up 40-50 points in a full season with McD. Dallas has a lot of players capable at C and some aging star wingers, so maybe this fits them better.

Holland isn't trading AA unless he's fleecing the other team. Why would he go out and try to trade for AA if he's going to trade him the next season?

If we realize in the playoffs that we need a reliable defensive 3C more than we need AA's pure offense. If AA fits well in the playoffs, then of course Holland doesn't do this.

Your Team Explanation is fair, but I would still want to hold on to him simply because I think he is going to be a good winger for McDavid come playoffs, and next season!

For sure. Of course AA will be here for playoffs, this would be happening next season. If AA begins to click with McD this playoffs I will be ecstatic. If he is relegated to the 3rd line because Ennis plays better with McD...then I have less optimism.

Oilers have best 3C possibly in the league in RNH, to bad their wings are so awful that doesnt happen.

You can look at it this way, but Nuge should be in the top 6, full stop. No 3rd line centre plays 20 mins like he does and should. And he plays well as a wing with Drai and Yam. He wouldn't give the team more at 3C, even with some decent 3rd line wingers. Leaving him there, and getting a decent 3rd line center at 3 mil or so is a better option for the lineup overall IMO.

Holland has done fantastic work in Edmonton. AA is the only real add that is puzzling and I don’t think he’s got the smarts to play with mcdavid. For all the good holland has done in his short time if he choose not to even qualify AA I’d accept giving him a pass on that one.

Total waste to play RNH at 3C.

I don’t disagree at all.

With the kind of minutes McDavid and Draisitl log yes. But if you had the talent to roll 3 scoring lines it would be pretty cool to see. Red Wings use to do a variation on it rolling lines w/Yzerman, Federov, and Larinov and the energy line of Draper Maltby and McCarty but that’s was before the salary cap.

Why can't we have both? Holland isn't going to trade Athanasiou, he clearly sees him as a long-term top-6 LW.

I agree with this. It doesn't mean AA has to go though - it's possible to have a 3C and a 1LW on the same roster.

Regarding the trade, I'd rather use other pieces to get Faksa. You have Benning, Puljujarvi, Benson and a few other assets you could use.

Well good teams have a 3rd line that can contribute, its what seperates good teams from tbe rest usually but even then it's not like they're putting up a huge amount of points from the 3rd line, there just isn't the ice time to go around for a 3rd line to be overly productive which is why I think it'd be a waste to put RNH at 3C.

Would be interesting to see if RNH could keep Neal somewhat productive in 3rd line match ups if he was centering that line though.
