Description
Although I'm wary about going through another GM change its probably for the best Botts has certainly had opportunities to make this team a contender and failed.
He did revamp the D core which could be his legacy here and hopefully the new GM can make the surplus of D a good trade chip.
This offseason the goal should be to draft high end talent that can help either this year or next at the latest. No big projects.
Finding a suitable 2C that's timeline will run along side Cozens until he is ready to make the leap. And filling out the reset of the team with talent that won't wipe away all the cap to take away from dahlin joke mitts and cozens in the future.
I think danault would be perfect he can solidify the middle and can go to the 3c in 2 3 years when cozens is ready.
I decided to slot Mitts in a wing role with eichel instead of signing a RW or trading for one. I would say if it desnt work out there a Mitts and Risto trade for a winger would work pretty well.
I think our core is set up pretty nice and depending on some of the young guys pan out the team could be really good.
Still need a goalie, although Ullmark showed signs of brilliance but was too inconsistent but don't see a goalie worth signing or trading for right now.

Whatever the value MTL can't trade Danault for now... not until KK or Peohling can fit TOP 2C

If Danault is your 3C, then you’re either one of the best teams in the league, or you put way too much emphasis on centres.

And Danault isn’t available. Other than Carey Price he may be the player that it would hurt the team most to lose.

It’s really not.. he’s one of the best 4th line centers in the game. He’s probably going to make 3 million.

I dont mind the larsson contract so long as that line stays a 3b line rather than a 4th. If he's gonna play 14+ mins a night that's fune

Poehling will never be a top 6 forward. Although I wouldn’t say that we don’t have enough top 6 C, since we have Domi & Suzuki right now, but we don’t have anyone like Danault that can take his spot.

If Kevin Hayes can net a guaranteed 1st as a rental, so can Danault.

That's not really MTL's problem is it ? They don't want to trade Danault and given the scarcity of quality centermen the price is always going to be very steep.

If getting good centermen was easy Buffalo would have fixed the problem already and MTL wouldn't have gone nearly a decade with Plekanec and Desharnais as their best C.

This argument is the equivalent of saying lightning traded a 1st for goodrow so now all 4th liners have a 1st pick price tag.
Hayes was also traded at the deadline so teams have more of a incentive to trade to win now.

Well Plekanec and Boyle were traded for 2nds as well and Danault is better than both were at the time. Apart from that there aren't many 2/3 C being traded every year so not sure where your supporting evidence for this trade being that enticing are.

Also to the Goodrow point; you can find many 4th liners going for far less. Where are these many centermen getting traded for less than a 1st or top prospect ?

Oglevie and Smith have zero value so this is a conditional 1st and a 2nd for Danault, can't see the Habs trading Danault for that and in all reality he's probably signing a long term deal to stay in Montreal.

Come on, you're not getting the 7th nominee for the Selkie (And he's still young and trending upward) for a 2nd, differed conditionnal 1st and a pair of 4th liners jeez. Then you go even further by stating that "this is a good offer for 1 year of a player", no it isn't because one year of this player only transfers the 2nd so it's one hell of a crappy deal then if you sign him long term it's even more of a ****ty deal for Montreal.
None of your tradeable prospects are interesting to Montreal (Cozens, UPL and Dahlin are obvisouly off the table) so the only interesting asset's your 2020 first rounder ... Yes it's a steep price to pay but that's what happens when you draft soso and lose most of your previous trades. If offers don't start with that or one of your top 6 forward that isn't overpaid or an RFA (Which leaves pretty much Eichel lol) you ain't getting a top 6 center anywhere throughout the league.

And what's sad is that Buffalo doesn't have the bigger end of the stick in any trading talks because if they don't make major moves they're losing their captain who's an inch away from the doorstep, other GMs knows that and won't make gifts to Bott or any new GM.

You can't put in the same sentence, best 4th liner and he's going to get $3M

He can go up in the line up too if needed extremely versatile. Would be disappointed to loose him.
