"If you have to ask the question, you know the answer"

I mean look at the record the Oilers have had since Katz bought the team. Look at how he insulated himself with the guys he grew up cheering for. Look at the dithering idiot he's left in charge of the entire operation, unaware of the actual mechanism that made him successful when he ran Hockey Canada. I don't think he's actually taken ownership of this team remotely seriously.

I pray that the man's in good health now, or that he's on the mend and he'll be fine in time, but I'd be lying if I said that I could wait for Harrison to assume ownership of the team.

No. I think Katz is an excellent owner because he readily doles out the coin for players and keeps his hands out of Hockey Ops. As far as I know, he even lets Nicholson run the OEG and grade the work of the GM. The only thing is that he is a bit too attached to the old boys club but none of them are Involved in the hockey side of things anymore.

I agree. He has been more than willing to even pay for senseless buyouts any failure the team has had hasn’t been for a lack of resources

being hands off doesn't mean good.

Matter of fact, in most businesses you would hope the owner is hands on.

He’s not the best owner. But he’s got some run way with the Oilers righting the ship this year.

If the Holland hire by some crazy chance went poorly then he would have been getting shredded.

Well yes and no. He allocated that to someone who had more experience In the business than him in bob Nicholson. While that is a more expensive Solution, it should be more effective than doing it yourself.

The problem I see is he had trouble finding the right people to run the org within his first 10 years. Which makes sense if he was trying to come in as a new owner and not “rock the boat” because he knew he really didn’t know what was best. But now that there are competent people in the right positions (Nicholson running only the business side and Holland running the hockey side), there Should be a better on ice product with more efficient spending
