MEGAMATTEOMAN saves the Canucks

Description
Showing the Canucks side of a trade that MEGAMATTEOMAN made on a Sens ACGM. It's obviously unrealistic, as it's a huge deal and a bunch of guys would have to waive clauses to get it done, but I'm intrigued by the overall value.

Giving up quality futures to get rid of past UFA mistakes is generally not something I'm in favor of, but this deal sheds 12 million off the cap in year 2 when Petey and Hughes need extensions. It would allow VAN to re-sign Marky, sign a top 4 Dman, and still have loads of cap room to maneuver this year and next.

Demelo isn't worth 4mil 5 years. I would give 3mil max. He isn't worth that

You're probably right, but I have a feeling he'll be pursued by multiple teams which will drive up the cost. Not many other young-ish RHD UFA's available that are very good possession players.

Even though I think Tanev is injury prone I think he is the much better option. I bet he will take a discount because I have seen several post where he said he wants to stay in Vancouver. Tanev is actually good on defense. Demelo just kills penalties. Tanev won't get perused by many teams.

Its fine if you sign him but I just find him super overrated

VAN is not moving Podkolzin, maybe another prospect.

For that much cap space, Podkolzin and a 1st is on the low end of what Vancouver would have to give up, even if he was a top 10 pick.

Funny thing is that I feel like Tanev is now the over-rated one. In past years he's been a very good shot-suppressor, but this year his possession stats weren't very good despite playing a lot of the time with Hughes, who was awesome. At 30 years old and with his injury history, I hope the team moves on from Tanev. His agent already stated he's not interested in a one year deal.
