This would be a ROR trade 2.0 but 10x worse if the Sabres accepted that

No thx

Deangelo - a player for a position in which we are crowded, although I like Deangelo, but we need a more defensive defender
Chytil = Mittelstadt for me
Robertson - the prospect of LD chosen in the second round, we also have enough of these

They have the same stats in the NHL, for me Chytil it is not yet a proven player in the NHL for 50+ points to trade Jack Eichel for him.

They quite literally, do not, have the same stats in the NHL. and you weren't close. If Mittelstad = Chytil he wouldn't be called a bust already

I'd rather keep the those pieces and develop em then trade them for Eichel. It's unnecessary for us, we've got our # 1 center in Zib already who makes a little more than half of what Eichel does.

Chytil is younger, had 23 points this season and looks ready to be a 2C next year. Mittelstadt had 9, and he doesn't look very promising right now

I agree, but 23 points is not impressive. Until he became 2C proven player on 50+ points, Mittesltadt fell in development, but at the end of the season he improved playing in the AHL, so far they are two unproven players for me, but development Chytil's is better.

I think Chytil has proven, at least so far, that he has a leg up on Mittelstatd, I don't think it Is fair to say they are =

Ottawa needs to get to the cap floor. There arent many contracts this year that are as attractive as the Smith deal for them ($4.3m Cap, $2.3m actual salary) as they look to cheat code and add 20m in cap hits. I honestly think they would pay a 4th outright for Smith personally but people are all argle bargle on this site if you talk about outside factors in trades instead of pure vacuum trade value. Like the laughable part about this forum is that people still think Ottawa makes hockey decisions about anything other than Melnyk being a cheap dirtbag.

OTT is not gonna have a problem making the floor. If we want to weaponize our cap, we can do that better than paying for Smith. I would be happy for OTT to take him as a cap dump, but NYR needs to be paying to move him.

Melnyk is trash. Hes a cheap dirtbag. Exactly why OTT wont be making this kind of trade.

the only thing melnyk cares about in this trade is getting 4.3 in cap for 50% the cash. thats the point. the value. he wants to get to the cap floor paying the least possible. Find me better expiring deals this offseason that Ottawa can get super cheap that have a much higher cap hit than cash owed. I have been looking for a while and few are as nice as Smith.

Were not going to have any problems making the minimum though. We have to make up like 18M and we need to sign Brown/Tierney/Duclair/Balcers/Paul/Hawryluk/Jaros and Chlapik as RFA, Boro and Peca as UFA.

OTT declines. The value isnt there. Swap the picks and youve got a deal.
