What's wrong with the Calgary trade? Most see it as a fair and plausible need swap

Look at Sam Bennet's stats and look at Andreas Johnson's stats. Bennett has played more seasons and hasn't even hit 20 goals bruh

Why though? Matthews I feel has the edge over Eichel mainly due to the supporting staff in TO. Eichel is more of a playmaker and Matthews is a sniper, when you have one of the most gifted playmakers in the league in Marner why would you move 2 of TO's best 3 goal scorers for another playmaker. I guess this is what this site is for but I wish we all could be a little more reasonable and a little less ridiculous.

I mean ridiculous on it happening yes. In a straight value vacuum:

Matthews >= Eichel
Nylander > Olofsson
Dermott << Joki

So really just depends on what you mean by reasonable. Because valuewise, add a pick where it needs to be and it’s fair. But neither team actually does it for obvious reasons

Nylander is further away from Ollofson than Dermott is to Jokiharju. Nylander is also elite. Ollofson isn't

Nylander isn’t elite. Very good sure. Dermott is not good. Like at all. Olofsson has an elite shot, and if he produces another year like this year, and Nylander doesn’t take another step (he also very well could vault into that elite category) then they really aren’t that far apart. But it’s whatever, this isn’t realistic on the will ever happen tree anyways.

This is a huge bias here. Nylander is the same age as Olofsson and has accomplished way more in his career so far. Nylander was on pace for 70+ and nearly 40 goals and under Keefe that isn't going to slow down. Finally he's been given the opportunity to play on the top PP unit which Babs never let him do in his first 3 years and he's learned to play closer to the opposition net which has led to an increase in goals. Nylander is elite, he's going to be 1 of 4 players in TO's top 6 to finish seasons above a point a game. Saying Dermott isn't good is laughable, I don't know where you got that info from but its not from his playing. He's an analytics darling, he's a next level skater and he's only 23, the ceiling for him is a top pair two way defensively responsible support guy. Like Stralhman. I think Jokiharju's ceiling is higher but Dermott is a good player. This trade is bad for the Leafs. They lose big on Nylander, they lose on Matthews and the difference isn't made up with Jokiharju.

Dermott as an analytics darling is what’s laughable. Favorable starts in the o zone (sheltered) and still is rocking negative possession numbers. I also said IF Nylander takes another step he’ll be elite. But IF VO has another year like this AND Nylander doesn’t, they aren’t that far apart. Nylander is obviously still better, by a good margin.

VO without Eichel is basically Kahun - so stop the nonsense comments you have no idea what you are talking about 😂

Considering the Leafs play over 50% of the game in the Ozone it should be no surprise that Dermott has more Ozone time than Done (that's what happens when you play on a good team) Buffalo wouldn't know anything about that

I'm actually dying!! Matthews and Eichel are at best equals, each of them have their own upsides and weaknesses that balance off. Nylander is great and all, but Olofsson was a rookie on pace for 30 goals. Olofsson is a better player imo. Joki >>> Dermott and it's not even close.
