Johansens deal is bad for what he brings in my opinion so jets decline.

I’m not sure if Nashville sells for that, would be interesting, i would like a buy low gamble, but that could be a pricey misfire, don’t like the bean deal probably lose to expansion

Who would you prioritize protecting on the defense over Bean? I can think of Morrissey and Pionk, maaaybe Niku (though I think that Bean's going to be better). Heinola is exempt and Poolman's a UFA. Generally speaking, I don't think that it's necessary to protect UFA signings like DeMelo, since Francis generally is looking for young guys to put on his team over acquiring veteran guys (unless bribed).

I just like the flexibility of not needing the spot, over this trade. But in saying that I don’t know bean that well, just drafted high and believe whl

I’d rather just keep Samberg. Nashville probably wouldn’t trade Johansen in division for that package.

I think that Bean's likely to be a better NHL player than Samberg, at least in my eyes. He's only a half-year older than Samberg and was probably the single best all-around defenseman in the AHL last year. He's ready for a top-4 role right now, but he just needs a team with less depth on defense than we do (and TBF, we may have the best defense in hockey when everyone's healthy). Samberg is just a better fit for our slow-marinade of a farm system, and we're so loaded on defense that Bean is likely to be a #7 next season. This basically is Winnipeg's version of Gauthier for Keane: acquire the prospect that is ready right now in exchange for a guy that's likely 2-3 seasons away from contributing in the NHL.

Samberg is a lot closer than 2-3 years away from the NHL, he may be even ready for a 3rd pairing role straight away. Even if he’s not, he’s at max 1 season in the AHL away from the NHL. Samberg is also closer to the ideal type of player we need for our defense (big, physical shutdown d-man) rather than another average-sized offensive d-man. We already have Morrissey, Heinola, Pionk, and DeMelo who are all average to smaller than average sized d-men. We’d also need to protect Bean in the Seattle draft and we wouldn’t have a slot due to us protecting whatever RHD UFA we sign/re-sign this offseason (most likely DeMelo).

I don't think Nashville makes that trade with one of their closest rivals for a wildcard spot. They could probably also get a better return than that from another team needing a 2C (Eg. Minnesota/Florida/Buffalo).

Big overpayment for Johansen. Jets can spend 8m on a UFA (or trade) and be better on the ice....and keep Vesalainain, Lowry and the 1st rounder.

Bean has been good in the A for the last couple of seasons so he has value, but I think the jets are too high on Samberg to deal him away before he steps on the ice. The deal does have fair value for both teams with Bean getting NHL time and Samberg allowed to grow in the A, but I think its a no
