The career of Patrick Sharp

Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2020
Published: Jun. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Today I've decided a player was was crucial for the Hawks in their 3 cup wins.

He was drafted in 2001, in the 3rd round. His carrer starter somewhat slowly and he was traded from the Flyers to the Hawks along with Eric Meloche (who?)in exchange for Matt Ellison and a 2006 3rd rounder that became Ryan White. Ouch.

In CHI, Sharp quickly established himself as a solid 1st line caliber player.

In the 09-10 when the Hawks won the cup against the aforementioned Flyers, Sharp was an integral part of the Hawks' run, putting up 11 goals and 22 pts in 22 games.... maybe PHI wins the cup with Sharp in their lineup... just saying...

His last season with the Hawks came in the 14-15 season, when they (again) won the cup. He was then traded to DAL along with Stephen Johns for Ryan Garbutt and Trevor Daley. How/why CHI didn't at least get a pick back baffles me.

His first year in DAL was very solid scoring 20 goals and 55 pts.

But during the next year, at 34 years old, he started showing serious signs of decline, because in 48 games he only scored 8 goals and put up 18 pts. Would still have been on pace for about 30 pts but still, not enough for him...

He then signed with CHI to end his career, because during the 2017 offseason Bowman tried to get the band back together, bringing back both Saad and Sharp. He wasn't able to bounce back, only scoring 10 goals and 21 pts in 70 games.

Overall he was a very good/underrated players, the underrated of course was due to him playing behind Hossa, Toews and Kane.

He was my second favorite player during the Hawks' glorious years after Hossa. What a player

He was not an immediate superstar, and a testament to the fact that you can develop top line talent without the said player clicking right away.

Always a fan favorite when he was here AND in Dallas (Chicago loved Sharp)
I was excited to see him develop into a regular in the TV business. I would love to have him announce hawks games in the future.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Patrick on more than one occasion and I must say he is classiest and friendliest player I have ever met.

I used to be a radio broadcaster in Thunder Bay and had a sports show called off the boards so I got to interview the local NHLers often. He was the best of the bunch. I've also met the Staals, (actually played rec hockey against Jared and stole the puck from him once, my crowning moment as a hockey player) Alex Auld, Bortuzzo, Hutton, and a few more. I haven't had the chance to meet Matt Murray yet but very much want to, I am super good friends with his extended family and have a terrific ice breaker for him but haven't had the chance to use it yet.

I never understood why Stephen Johns was part of that deal. Sharp was still prime when he was traded. Dallas should’ve paid more for him and Johns shouldn’t have been part of that deal.

I also don’t understand why Bickell wasn’t just bought out and we keep Teraveinen. And with the Hawks in a commanding lead in the West, why did they need to go out and give up Danault for bottom 6 forwards?

Imagine Johns, Turbo, and Danault still on the team. 😔

Imagine: they let Seabs walk, they keep Johns around (for a bit at least), they keep Danault and Panarin... OMG

CHI didn't get a pick back because Sharps cap hit. It's unfortunate for CHI, but DAL found an opportunity to take advantage of CHI's cap problems. AND if anyone wants to find blame in that...well at least they went for the cup when they could and won 3 of them. So hard to argue against going for it.

Cap issues too. Danault wasn't fitting in at all though. People love to dump on Bowman for hindsight, but Danault was failing badly in the Hawks system and that pick was a pick that just happened to turn out good for MTL.
