Bring on Trade Deadline 2021 - work in progress

Created by: TCMonkey
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2020
Published: Jun. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
SO THIS IS the 20-21 roster up until trade deadline:
Stepan and Hinostroza (who we sign to a one year deal in arbitration) will both be rentals we can move at trade deadline. Stepan would likely get a decent return as an experienced pivot, Hinostroza less so, but at late round pick at the very least. The same goes for Brendan Smith - ship his as a rental. I know there are a lot of mixed reviews on Hunter Skinner but speaking STRICTLY from a defensive perspective, he can hold down the right side on the 3rd pairing (maybe develop to 2nd pairing).
We still have Norris, Logan Brown, Balcers and Formenton in the AHL so I'm not worried about who will fill the spots for Stepan and Hinostroza (and Anisimov) after trade deadline.
** Byfield and Stutzle taken with 2nd + 3rd OA 2020 picks.
** Players marked scratched are no longer on roster at this time.
** These line combos are not set in stone. I'm sure adjustments would be made.
** Apparently when you try to add the UMLAUT to STUTZLE when creating a player they spell it a Sttzle. haha.

Quinton Byfield is nowhere near being NHL ready yet, And Tim Stutzle stated that he plans on playing another season in the DEL. So neither Byfield or Stutzle will be playing in the NHL next season. And the odds of Ottawa staying in the #2 and #3 spots to take them are pretty slim.

I think the trades aren’t bad well thought out.
I don’t know if having a rookie on each line is a great idea but that’s not completely crazy since sens do have an amazing depth pool of prospects. I’d shuffle the lines up a little different however I like the pieces you have here

OTT is getting your 5th and giving you the SJS 6th. I'd be shocked if it was a difference of 20 slots. But I'll consider it.

This isn’t enough to dump Zaitsev nor do the Red Wings need another RHD and you’re trading a 2020 pick during the 2021 TDL...

Absolutely valid points. I do think Byfield could be ready especially since the 20-21 season probably isn't starting until 2021, but who knows. That's the one thing we can all agree on right now..... "who knows?" haha

The Zaitsev move is done before the season starts. The team I've posted is the 20-21 team up until trade deadline when we move the others I mention in the description. But you are correct, Detroit is not a good trade partner for Zaitsev, I will adjust that.

Yeah i guess there's possibility of both playing if the season doesn't start until January of 2021, Which is more then likely to happen.

If I'm looking at this right, Max active roster size is 23. And the Salary floor is at 60.5 mil. You're way under your salary floor, which makes this team invalid....

To help with the cap floor and adding a vet that will also have a positive impact on youth James Neal might be a very very good target for sens. He could easily slot in on top six and contribute 20-25 goals given that role. He won’t cost anything significant to acquire and contract will be off the books well before most of the ELC contracts are up.

Well Chabot's new $8M contract kicks in AND C Brown, Duclair, Hinostroza, Boro, and Nick Paul would all be getting pay bumps as well, so if we're under it wouldn't be by a worrisome amount.
And the roster size is inaccurate - as I've said the SCRATCHED column are players we did not extend.

HAHA. Wouldn't EDM just lovvvvvve that. And I'm not sure what you mean by "won't cost anything significant to acquire" - it's 100% the other way around, what is EDM willing to throw in for OTT to take the contract off your books?

Neal is still a good useful player. Because of contract price be driven down but not to a negative value. 4th or 5th rounder for a guy that can still give 20-25 goals and mentor youth I think works out very well for both sides.
You need to look at neals career. He holds negative value if used in a depth role but if you can provide top six he’s always produced and brought value.

If Neal was in the final year of his contract I might agree, but he's not. He also had a team worst -20, and 12 of his 19 goals this season came on the PP, 5 of which came in his first 4 games. And no one is forgetting about the trade that brought him to EDM. You got rid of Lucic's horrific contract and threw in a conditional 3rd. So let's not pretend anyone is looking to give up picks or prospects to get Neal into their line up for 3 years at $5.75M

Already asked, already answered: Chabot's new $8M contract kicks in AND C Brown, Duclair, Hinostroza, Boro, and Nick Paul would all be getting pay bumps as well, so if we're under it wouldn't be by a worrisome amount and easily dealt with by picking up a UFA if required.

Detroit will want more to take on that contract for 3-4 years at 4.5 it's going to take a good prospect or a first, or Ott 2nd, nyi 2nd and another 2021 2nd

As @BStinson pointed out, DET is set for RHD. And to be honest Ottawa might be better off retaining 50% of his salary which could entice other trade partners and cost Ottawa a little less in terms of what they're giving up.

Gonna cost way more than a 2nd and 3rd if Sens want someone to take Zaitsev
