This post makes total sense. However, you are missing the biggest point, in that the Canadiens need to get rid of Bergevin who is the most incompetent GM in the entire NHL. Total joke he still has a job in Montreal as he is part of the NHL oldboys club where jobs are earned based on who you know rather than merit. Canadiens going no where with him running the ship into the ground year after year.

It's a shame too because their owner just gave a "vote of confidence" to Marc Bergevin. Montreal has a bunch of pretty decent prospects and young players, and a bunch of great-quality veterans that are getting older by the day. Whatever this rebuild was to begin with, in my opinion, things started off the right way. Montreal had a star goalie, Subban was coming off a Norris Trophy, then he was traded for Weber, who I think is still great, when healthy, but I am honestly not sure where things went sideways.

Good post. Only problem is that I believe that there is a limit of picks you’re allowed to have in the first 2 rounds. I heard that somewhere once so I could be wrong but someone let me know the official rule. Thanks!

I think there is a rule about how many unsigned drafted players any organization can hold the rights to.

Winning early sent them sideways, Bergevin got the team in 2012, where they finished bottom of the league. He thought he was getting s team that was going to be a lottery team and build through the draft. That all went sideways when Price became a superstar and started his 3-4 year reign as the world's best goalie, Subban came out of no where to be a Norris contender for a couple years and Patches starting putting 30 a year.

It made them a sudden a contender when they thought they were still going to be a lottery team. They likely trade Markov in 2013, move on from Halak sooner, and dont start trading away draft picks. But instead they start winning in a weak division without ever being real contenders, they dont have the picks to get proper prospects so they just rely on trades for bargain bin guys.

That makes sense. Thank you for elaborating on the tale of How the Habs Went Sideways. Sounds like a weird movie title haha

No thanks from Carolina. Foegele has the potential to be better than Drouin outright. Plus the picks? We're good, plus Foegele is probably a better centre

Idk why you’re getting hammered on these trades. Most of them are really fair. Especially the St Louis one. Very realistic
