I believe it was one of the hockey podcasts where one of the Blue Jackets beat reporters were on and mentioned that Columbus already tried to negotiate with Anderson, but he was looking for more than $6 million AAV on a deal with plenty of term on it, where the Blue Jackets weren't prepared to go that high/long on either dollars or term. So, in theory, and what I am trying to get it, as any team that acquires Anderson's rights would have to be willing to either meet his number or be positive that once they acquired him they could successfully negotiate with him to a lower number, and that's before discussing term. Are the rangers prepared to meet that number or close to it? I am not sure.

I mean, I feel like you could get Anderssson using Gabe Carlsson if you wanted him so bad. not Josh Anderson, though.

I'm not a believer in his skill ever fitting in an NHL top six, and he isn't a player who is built to succeed in a bottom six role.

Anaheim are rebuilding so I don't see them trading a reasonably high pick for a rental. Especially one that's a LHD (not a need) and injury prone.

Rangers win this trade easily. Can't see it happening.

I forget which podcast it was and how long ago this was discussed, maybe it was last month? But it should really come as no surprise. It was well reported at the time he signed his bridge extension that Josh Anderson felt he was doing the Blue Jackets a favor by taking that bridge deal and now wants to get paid. Kekalainen has been quoted as saying he wants Anderson back, but I think inconsistency this season combined with post-injury concerns has the Jackets worried of shelling out big term and big money for a player in Anderson's position. With his rumored asking price, you can obviously see who he is using as contract comp (Kreider, for one).

I believe the podcast guest was either Brian Hedger or Aaron Portzline, but I still cannot remember which podcast.

Agreed - easy win for the Rangers which is why this would probably never happen. Would love to add JA to the rangers but what would the price be? For arguement's sake would it be Andersson + What?

Oof.. Anderson for a fat bust. Hard pass. Andersson wouldn’t play in torts system and would just leave for Sweden again.

Columbus would probably want a 2nd as well as Lias.

Nobody is giving him 6M this offseason. He has arbitration rights anyway so either they get a huge haul from OS compensation or they get a fair short term deal in arbitration

I don't think any team would be willing to OS him, but I guess there's always that chance. Anderson has already taken an incredibly team-friendly bridge deal, so I can see that at least part of this rumor/report is true that he wants some contract security. Would a team be willing to give him that term of 5,6,7 years? I think there is a team out there that would, but for the right price. For $6 million AAV, I would agree that a lot of teams would be hesitant, but there always seems to be at least 1 team per offseason that is prepared to blow the bank open with a crazy RFA/UFA signing, and those are usually desperate teams with very unhappy fan bases.

Agreed, I was kinda joking about the OS just to emphasize that he doesn't really have much leverage to ask for 6M - nobody would be willing to sign him to 6M and give up OS compensation. And even if one crazy GM does OS him for that much then CBJ (or in this case NYR) would get a huge haul in picks so that would be a good thing for them. He can ask for 6M but no way he gets that much from a sane GM. Most likely outcome is that an arbitrator will give a fair short term deal (for much much less than 6M)

If you look at the OS schedule, I believe the compensation is only a 1st and a 3rd, which I guess is more than Columbus might otherwise get for trading his rights? I am not sure. There's no doubt in my mind that with all the comps out there, in front of an arbitrator, he gets at least a $4.5 million AAV contract. Thing is though, most teams end up working something out with a player before it gets in front of the arbitrator. Not sure how the relationship is at this point between team and player.

Maybe if he was an RFA last offseason he could've gotten 4.5M+ but as of right now I don't think he would get over 3.5M at arbitration on a 1-2 year deal

this is the kind of comment you get when people watch clickbait nonsense and think it's "news"

Fake news and people just making crap up turns society into idiots.

No team is giving Anderson 6 million a year with long term. None, and it's not even remotely reasonable for him to expect that, knowing that. Which is why we ALL know that didn't happen.
