Description
Twenty-first of a series ending on June 30. Mainly doing these to get a better understanding of teams I’m not a “fan” of per say.

Any trade I make will also show up for the other team when I get to that team.

Don’t get mad at me for the lines for the whole series really since I’ll be using the lines before the stoppage and will factor in injured players where I see fit...though do feel free to make suggestions on the lines.

Ottawa Senators:
Stepan comes into Ottawa with only 2M in real cash after Arizona pays his bonuses. Chlapik goes the other way but I think the 2nd and 3rd are more valuable at this point. Stepan could be moved for a big return at the tdl if all goes well. He is a playmaking, defensive first centre who would be very good with those 2 imo. If not move him to the 3rd of 4th kind and sell him for whatever you can at the tdl.

Tierney is a simple move. BUF needs a stopgap 2c and the sens provide for a decent price.

Finally the Russel trade is similar to the stepan trade. Russel is owed the same amount of money as Reilly after bonuses are paid so it’s really a lateral move for a budget friendly team like OTT. In the process they get a 3rd and closer to the cap floor. Russel waives to be bought out

The sens should try to move anisimov early in the season before his value drops into cap dump territory as I don’t think it will stay up at 4c.

Eriksson like stepan is owed less cash than his cap hit. With a flat cap the sens will be one of the only teams with a lot of cap space so they get him, a first, and tryamkin. The sense then buy him out to save even more cash.

Love the fact that you got assets for short term cap relief. Best way to get free assets.

I focused on assets that won’t cost too much in real money as melnyk likes. If the cap stays flat and there are no cbos, every team will need to take on money, even the cheap melnyk.

Sens really aren't a team that's going to be buying out anybody.

those bonuses are due July 21 and another 1M to ericsson in 22. and Canucks are not going without a first two years in a row and certainly not for Carcone.

Oilers say no while not a bad idea and solid thinking on sens part. Russell doesn’t have any term and the cap hit isn’t hurting the team. More likely holland keeps Russell for his versatility rather than adding a pick to remove.

Oilers say yes - this deal saves the team 2.5M, which can be used to improve the third line. Russell has a NMC though, so it’s unlikely.

why would you buy out russell? After july 15th, he is acutally only getting 1.5 mil in real money for the season. Something Melnyk will really like

I had too many defensemen. I could have moved jaros but I think he has more potential

because it costs more to buy him out rather than put in the press box
