Interested what Guerin will do with this team

Description
Sure won’t be this!
Could sign Koivu if he decides to play. If so he would be a nice help to this lineup as im thinking they will have to cycle centermen. unless JEK, Kunin, Zach’s and/or merkley can find their groove at center.
Got a few more players to trade away like stalock or duby, could sign a d and trade pateryn if there is any takers. Lots of options left. This doesn’t solve the top 6 center right now but this lets the young guys spread their wings at center. Which hopefully can solve this vacant hole. Zacha is a nice compliment player, maybe I value him too much but a nice 2nd more 3rd line center. But I think they would like having him around with the likes of staal and koivu on the outs.
First thought with the trades for Dumba and Brodin went like:
Dumba - Domi
Brodin - Severson
In this though I went with a cut and grow type of situation. Could probably get more for Brodin. Signing dadonov is nice but I doubt it happens. Sign Haula? Lol. Namestikov wouldn't be the worst. Not the best year for Forward FA. If they don’t sign a dadonov type it would almost be better for growth.

Ya no doubt. Like I said up top they would defiantly need to cycle through centermen. Yikes

Guerin got some work to do, I'm super excited to see how Kaprizov does in NA, he'll be good for Minnesota's dire offence. The New Jersey trade is interesting though. I'm like you I think, I've always liked Zacha probably more than others. Change of scenery could be good for him similar to Fiala.

Habs fans are gonna dump all over that Petry trade.
I really don't see why NJ would have interest in that trade, Brodin while good doesn't really fit with the age of their young core, idk maybe they would but I don't see it.

The NJD trade is the only one that looks somewhat realistic. Zacha is one of those players I see and wonder what he is as a player? He hasn't really had good linemates to play with the last couple seasons. I like Bratt, but he's not a top-6 winger.

Skip the Dad signing, MN has way too many wings already, adding another old one for big money is an awful move.

Probably skip the Lehner signing too with the goalies MN has in their system. I like the idea of Lehner in MN but not for that much money.

Koivu for anything over $1m is an overpay.

    Centers:
    Staal
    JEE
    Zacha
    Koivu/Strum

MN's "dire offense" is just fine. They were 6th in 5v5 goals and 9th in 5v4 goals.

The only work Guerin has to do is sign Kaprizov (shouldn't be difficult), get a top-6 center (not easy), and figure out the goalie situation (which has possible in-house options). The team's cap, prospect pool, wings, and d-corps are all fine heading into next season.

Oh I definitely agree. They really don’t have to do anything. Like every year basically no one moves in the NHL except a few guys or actually make an impact. We are all so trade hungry but it just never really happens. So sad but it’s nice to see teams grow a little more instead of acquire to get better.

The MTL trade is interesting. I just dont get why Petry is a target, I guess if Guerin thinks he's in a retool instead of a rebuild it makes more sense but even then, just trade Dumba for picks and NHL close prospects. As for the value, I think its a little lopsided for MIN. I think both players can bring very very similar production and heavy minutes for their team but Petry is older and has to be signed. Im just not sure those two things are enough to add a 1st and a 2nd since MTL are not really improving, they just get younger. Maybe im wrong, maybe its fair but I would change the 1st for a decent prospect (A-, B+). Anyway, I think the trade is cool and outside the box from all the Domi/Brodin tradeals, maybe just need some tweaks.

And we're right to do so.
If rumours are true Montreal received an offer for Petry at this TDL, it was a 2020 1st and Jake Bean. Let's say that as a retained rental Petry could bring you what the Kings got for Muzzin so a 1st from a contender (Late) and a pair of B+ prospects (Both former second round picks so it's not like they were thrown in there for no reason) it's an awful trade for Montreal. Is Dumba worth a 1st? Most likely, but a second and a top four defenseman? Nah.

Cool beans I can fully agree. Ya put down what ya put down. Lol having Petry is basically a filler till the young’s guy settle in

For sure a lot just to have a younger d man but at 26 and signed for 3 more years at $6m is pretty awesome for Montreal I think. Yes they could probably just keep Petry and have no worries but just think Dumba could provide more for a longer period of time.

And that's the issue because three years down the line we'll be back to square one, a 30 yo defender due for a medium/big contract but instead of having a young prospect coming in to fill in on his ELC there's nothing because I traded you this 1st rounder. If Montreal was in a winnow situation it'd make sense to stretch the cup window a little more but in the last year of a retool where we might be on the cusp of playoffs there's no good reasons to do so, pick would most likely be 10-20 overall so not worth it for Montreal thanks for the interest shown.

I'll admit...I didn't realize Minnesota's offence did that well this year, had to look it up cause I didn't believe you. I knew Fiala and Parise had good years but beyond that I thought that had really lacked scoring from everyone else, especially after trading Zucker too. But your summary of their future I'd agree with. I think Kahkonen can step up next season as an in house option in net. Biggest need for them is a top 6 center which is never easy to acquire.

It's a pretty common misconception about MN's scoring. You tell those numbers to people and they go "wait, what, that can't be right."
