That Hanifin trade is awful for the Pens, Guentzel is one of the best LWs in the league. Whoever gets Laf would be lucky if he turned out as good as Guentz

I’m not saying the flames wouldn’t do the pens trade they would but I don’t think gio is going to be protected I’d rather protect Kylington or Brodie over gio

Why would the Flames let their captain and best defender walk? Are you forgetting he just recently won the Norris? Horrible message to send to the roster.

Guentzel is good but Hanifin has top pairing potential, at the very least he will be a very good #3 defender. Impact of Lafreniere not withstanding. Which honestly he could be a lot better than Guentzel is currently and then some.

Maybe because taking a guy who’ll turn 38 in 2021 isn’t the way to build an expansion team...

Maybe because taking an elite defender with captain material is exactly what a fresh franchise would be looking for. This is coming from an Oilers fan, Giordano would be exactly what Seattle would salivate over if he was exposed.

Very strongly doubt he’ll still be elite at 38 lol

At D probably but by then he might be a 30 pts guy...

Why don't you put up a poll asking which player would you rather have. Lafreniere or Guentzel? Take off the homer goggles.

"Guentzel is good" hes a borderline top 5 LW in the league, point per game 40 goal scorer on a really good deal. Also ppg in the playoffs and had 10 goals and 21 points in 12 games 2 playoffs ago

because I don't have to ask.
One guy is a prospect.
The other guy was on pace to put up back to back 40 goal seasons.

Wow it must be tough to be a LW in the NHL when a top 5 player in the position has never scored over 80 points in a season.

76 last year and over a ppg this year before getting injured all while being a good defensive forward

2 things. Flames definitely take that trade, it will not be offered. Valimaki is expansion exempt if he doesn't play this year and Calgary very likely isn't protecting Gio at age 38 with 1 year left on his contract

The Kings wouldn't trade Petersen for Murray straight up, let alone include Sean Walker. Petersen is the goalie of the future for the Kings and isn't going anywhere.

Would you rather a top line guaranteed 30+ goal scorer on a cost controlled contract or a #3 defenceman? I know what I'd choose lol. Laf will not come close to Guentzels 2018-2019 season.. and this season he was on a 90pt pace over 82pg... I'd bet my life Laf doesn't sniff that
