I understand the idea but Toronto can't trade all their depth like this. This trade kills any ability to sign free agents or resign players. Trust matters and this type of fire sale makes Dubas look like a crazy person. Agents would use this against him.

The only way Toronto makes cap and fill holes is moving Marner, not everyone else on the team except the top 3 contracts. I posted a trade a few weeks ago that I still think does this but in a way that Toronto can still have a hockey team going forward.

nah u could move a combo like johnsson.kerfoot, thats 7M off your cap, you got young wingers to fill Johnsson's spot and Kerfoot never really fit in anyway

And save 4 million, which isnt enough. Then have to move a big contract anyway.

you save 4 after you replace the players with 1-2 million contracts. You don't just get to fill every spot with an ELC and even if you did that would be 5 mil not 7.

Edit: Unless you wanna have 10 forwards every game.

wtf? you have to fill the roster spots. You don't just make the replacement contracts count separately. If you take away 3.5 million, you leave an empty hole. You can't have an empty hole. So you fill the empty hole. So you're saving 3.5 mil - filling the hole. You don't get to say you're saving 7 mil and leave the rest of the problem for another person to deal with. That's not how anything works ever. Someone save me from this muppet.

clearly you are new... you discuss each move individually, moving kerfoot saves you 4.5, moving johnsson saves you 3.5 thats a total of 7M saved on two moves

I never said you don't spend that money else where, thats just you pulling something out of your ass to argue against

that is just a huge mess way to many moving parts .. if u believe that this big of a shake up is needed maybe trying more manageable parts would be better and chemistry is huge part of a team and this trade would cause some heavy damage in that area to all the teams..

Dubas doesn't at all look crazy. Just because things didn't go the way they thought doesn't mean people didn't think it was great when he did it. He signed Tavares. Toronto loved it. He moved Kadri. Toronto was split but people loved Barrie. The Ottawa trade looked good because everyone hated Zaitzev and knew Brown would never play under Babcock. Just because things didn't work out isn't all on Dubas. Toronto fans just can't think 5 minutes in the past. He looks like a guy who went for it and it didn't turn out the way all of the fans thought. You can't go from "we have the best team, we're gonna win" to "Dubas is an idiot, we're doomed" based on results and no other transactions.
