I hope you don't take offense to this but this post made me laugh. Not because I think the trade is a bad trade or anything like that. No, I laughed because this might be the least impactful trade in the history of CapFriendly. You picked the two worst teams in the league and traded Brendan Perlini for a 5th. Both teams are so bad that not only do I think that it doesn't make the Senators better...but it doesn't make the Red Wings worse either. You usually see this trade between a contender and a rebuilding team midseason...not two rebuilding teams in the offseason. So I'm sorry to laugh but I got a kick out of this post.

Now onto the actual post itself, I don't think that the Senators would do this. Sure, 5th round picks rarely turn out to be NHLers but there still is a chance you could find a diamond in the rough with that pick. As far as your high reward goes, I don't think we can expect too much from Perlini. The best hope is that Perlini turns into like a Marcus Foligno from my Wild. Then they could flip him to a contender for a higher pick later on next season. But I would just take my chances with the 5th rounder than use it on Perlini.

About 5 to 9 players from the 5th round play over 100 games that is after the majority of the draft class has retired. I like the optimism but losing Perlini doesn't make Detroit any worse it actually might make them better because it opens up a roster spot for a prospect. Detroit traded for Perlini because of all the injuries they had. He had 4 points didn't kill any penalties and some PP time. Honestly I'd rather have the 5th. No offense to TheNorthStar but I agree with mnwild1970 that it is kind of pointless for a capfriendly trade.

I don't disagree but like, after 60 straight Eichel trades maybe we just let people have their small deals. These ones get made more anyway so it's fine to discuss.

That's true, that's why I apologized for laughing but I still wasn't expecting a Perlini for a 5th trade at all. When I saw Detroit and Ottawa, immediately starting thinking that Larkin or Mantha or Chabot or you know the heavy hitters were involved. In fairness to the threadstarter...had I actually read the title before clicking, I could've expected this type of trade. I didn't want to take away from Thread starters post, so that's why I also added my 2 cents!
