Save Eichel

Created by: OlafKolzigsHotDog
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2020
Published: Jun. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Does this fly? This is also assuming 2 CBOs so they can buy out Okposo and Backes.
The trade seems like a lot for what is generally seen as a bad contract in Henrique, but he's a good 2/3C for behind Eichel, and can insulate Cozens. It's mostly for Lindholm who is one of the best defensive defencemen in the league. Hoping Demelo and Lindholm can help back-up Dahlin and Montour so they can do their thing. Still don't know if Anaheim would do it. Maybe pull the 3rd Round pick.

This is also crossing your fingers very hard that Ullmark stays good.

Nah they mainly need better defensive depth (specifically in their forwards) and a better goalie partner for Ullmark to stopgap UPL

you really are over simplifying things here. Assuming Skinner and Reinhart are on the 1st line with Eichel, Buffalo needs an entire 2nd line, fillers in their bottom 6 and competent goaltending. that doesn't come easy when your prospect pool is extremely thin and the team has been garbage for over a decade, making free agency difficult unless you overpay...

Yawn. I miss the Buffalo team with Briere, Pominville, Vanek, Ryan Miller, Sekera, Stafford and Roy

Well of course it's pretty simplified, IMO the goalie situation isn't that difficult, with ED coming up and so many teams beeing against the cap, as well as a flooded goalie UFA market I think getting a competent back up is fairly easy. As for their prospect pool, plenty of pieces still have quite a bit of value. There are a couple teams I'm pretty excited to see work their magic this summer and Buffalo is one of them.

Agreed Sabres are not that far away. They do have a few glaring wholes but nothing that other teams haven't managed to fill in short order and greatly improve their teams. The Sabres have just made sooo many bad moves in recent years it makes it seem impossible that they will make enough of the right ones to get them back to being a contending team. That being said it would only take a couple of solid moves or even just some luck.

With Botts out of the picture now, I think it's very likely they move on from Risto now and run Montour/Joker/Miller on their RD depth, attempt to bring in a 2nd pair defensive LD (Dillon-esque) and lean on this year's draft pick (I really think they should take Lundell if available) as well as Cozens to help solidify their center depth. Maybe move on from Mitts and sure up other spots. I personally am a fan of them going after Raanta.
