Drafted 6th overall in the 1994 NHL Entrey Draft, Ryan Smyth had a very good career that started in the season right after he was drafted, the 94-95 one. That being said, he only played 3 games that year, going back to the WHL for 1 more season. He became a pro the year after, scoring 11 pts in 48 NHL games and 11 pts in 9 AHL games.
He really took off the year after, scoring 39 goals in 82 games.
After that, with a few exceptions here ans there, he was a really solid player who was a money in the bank 25-30 goals per season.
He was traded to the NYI in 2007 fir Ryan O'Marra, Robert Nilsson and a 1st rounder in 2007 that became Alex Plante. Prett fair to say that the NYI fleeced the Oilers there.
The aforementioned NYI moved him to LA only 2 years later for Tom Pressing, Kyle Quincey and a 2010 5th rounder that became Luke Walker.
He was again traded 2 years later back to EDM for a 7th rounder that became Dimitry Sinitsyn and Colin Fraser.
He ended his carer in the 13-14 season after scoring 386 goals and 842 pts in 1270 NHL games.
He was ofter en member of Team Canada at the World Championship
