sure, but then what does that say about kapanen? that he's a mid range 2nd liner? cool, those are more valuable than #5 defenders

His team is better off with out him on the ice according to those stats, and with bloated points, Kapanen is a 30-40 point 3rd line winger, 2nd liner if hes filling in for injuries. Where as Miller is considerably more valuable to his team analytically, he just doesnt have the offense. But the Sabres Offense was terrible so thats not 100% his fault Miller and Dahlin were the 2nd most common pair on the season, that makes him a 2nd pair dman.

I worded it that he couldnt make it as a full timer on the sabres roster despite apparently being worth a 2nd liner

yeah, which is misleading, because he was. He played 8 less games than Dahlin and 3 less than Montour

kinda the opposite actually, He's a fine bottom pairing defender who can slot in as your number 4 guy if you have some injuries or whatever, but he still needs to be sheltered somewhat. He cant handle top line comp or run a 2nd pairing without someone carrying him.

I think you might have misread thats exactly what im saying colin miller is haha. hes fine as an offensive dman, but he sucks in his own end. He is a 4-6 dman. like you said a 4 if you have some injuries or a stud left defenseman there. but if you expect him to carry or even me an equal on a 2nd pairing, forget it.
