Not sure why. Miller had a better season than Montour and hasn't lost nearly as much value while playing in Buffalo. Hes cost controlled for another couple seasons, not needing a new deal like Montour. Miller should be the higher value defenseman of the two. I know a lot of Leafs fans on here like to see a 1st line winger in waiting in Kapanen but thats not his value right now. This is the kind of deal that gets done.

because it's not enough value for Kapanen, that's why. And having a better season than Montour doesnt matter if you still didnt have a good season yourself.
The best you are getting from Toronto for Miller is Johnsson

You have an unrealistic view of Millers season and Kapanens value.

you've got that flipped around. Miller had an ok defensive season against middling competition while getting healthy scratched and basically being a net zero offensively, while Kapanen scored at the 34th highest rate in the league among right wingers despite playing on the third line with guys like Kerfoot and Engvall and getting no power play time and being a very versatile PK player.
He is significantly more valuable than Miller

Considering Kapanen only scored 13 goals, i think that says more about right wingers than it does Kapanen. Seems like a cherry picked garbage stat.

yeah, or it means that he scored 13 goals playing on the third line with no power play time and playing with 3rd liners. The point, that you so graciously missed was that he scored at a 2nd line rate buried behind two very very good players.

why? there are plenty of people who hilariously under value Kapanen and over rate MIller.

Well lets see here. His most common linemates in the first quarter were Marner and Tavares, in the second quarter it was Matthews and Nylander. Now knowing that he went on a 16 game pointless streak near the end of the season(the entire 3rd line did)...i think its fair to say where most of those goals came from and it wasn't the 3rd line.

10 goals in the first half of the season when he was playing on the top 2 lines and only 3 in the second half while playing on the 3rd line. He scored 3 goals in a 26 game span while actually playing on the 3rd line, lets see where that ranks up in your scoring rate. You cherry picked a stat and ignored the context of it for your own benefit. Get out of here with that trash.

colin miller for andreas johnsson. Buffalo should do in a heartbeat. not sure why toronto would even want colin miller though. Worse version of barrie, saw plenty of him as a bruin hes a bottom 3 defender. Can hold his own offensively but defensively, woof.

kinda the opposite actually, He's a fine bottom pairing defender who can slot in as your number 4 guy if you have some injuries or whatever, but he still needs to be sheltered somewhat. He cant handle top line comp or run a 2nd pairing without someone carrying him.

Sabres are pretty full up on the left side, and would keep Miller anyway

Kapanen was in the 58th percentile of forwards in goals but 98th percentile of forwards in secondary assists while only in the 47th percentile for primary assists. Bloated stats

sure, but then what does that say about kapanen? that he's a mid range 2nd liner? cool, those are more valuable than #5 defenders

I worded it that he couldnt make it as a full timer on the sabres roster despite apparently being worth a 2nd liner
